fixtures. The supply system delivering water from the potable source to the building is the "water
service" pipe.
The water distribution system includes normally both hot and cold water. The temperature range limits
the materials allowed.
it is common to rate water-distribution pipes for a minimum working pressure of aprox. 100 psi (7 bar)
and 180oF (80oC)
It the the water-service to the building exceeds the rated water-distribution pressure, a pressure-
reducing valve must be installed.

pump stations ----These are PUMP stations. In truth, we tend to use these terms interchangeably. There
is also something called a booster pump station. These are used in drinking water distribution systems
to increase line pressure. A lift station or a pump station could be a source of pollution if it overflowed.
A booster pump station is less likely to be a source of pollution because it is moving clean drinking
water. Drinking water contains chlorine, a pollutant that can damage the environment in high enough
concentrations, but I don't think that is what is meant in this case.

fire hydrant
Fire hydrant
A fire hydrant is a connection point by which firefighters can tap into a water supply. It is a component
of active fire protection. Underground fire hydrants have been used in Europe and Asia since at least the
18th century. Above ground pillar-type hydrants are a 19th-century invention.
