Final Reflection Paper

1. When I conducted my interview with Traci Robison, I was not expecting to get a whole

lot from it. However, I feel I put a lot more effort into that assignment than I have in past

assignments (from other classes), and I really reaped the rewards. Not only did I find the

questions provided on the assignment paper useful, my own questions that I asked as the

interview progressed really helped to create a well-rounded dialogue and conversation

about how to approach the professional world with my best foot forward. To me, the

career interview was more than Traci giving me her professional background, it was a

brief mentor/mentee experience that really helped me solidify my choice to go into

communications.

2. A great aspect of the career I investigated was the importance of social interaction! I have

definitely come out of my little shell this semester, and blossomed into a more

extroverted “go get ‘em” person that I am today, and will hopefully continue to be

throughout my time here at Purdue and into my professional career. In order to be

successful in communications, you have to be able to communicate efficiently, as well as

be a more extroverted, social person. In terms of negatives, perhaps being more

electronically inclined would be a difficulty for me. In terms of being conventional, I

definitely could see myself struggling a little bit. Obviously learning Excel or maybe just
learning by practice would be a way to improve this negative, but I definitely do not see

this as a hard negative, but more of a challenge.

3. I feel very strongly about my future career in communications, however I am not sure

that I have a future in marketing, just based on the lack of a business degree. However, I

do have a better understanding of how marketing can tie into both liberal arts and

business. I would still consider this career down the road if I was able to go into the sort

of line of giving back to those who give to the university, or whatever company I work

for in the future. However, I would like something a little more fast paced, something a

little more uncertain every day. I am definitely leaning more towards journalism, which I

think is more expressive in the communications world.

4. This entire semester in EDPS has been amazing. I have learned so much about myself via

the inventories. The resources that I became aware of this semester too will also help me

greatly when it comes to figuring out what I want to do with my life. I am so excited to

take what I have learned this semester and apply it to my life to help me reap the most

rewards as a Purdue student. Like using the elevator pitch! I have never used an elevator

pitch before, nor have I had to. So this assignment was super rough. However, when we

did the activity I was able to see how much better everyone’s was, and take from theirs

what I wanted in mine. All that is left to do is practice. Another thing that I plan to take

away from this class is using my new and updated resume. Honestly, before this

semester, my resume was not updated since September of last year. It is kind of crazy

honestly. So, I am happy to say that I have a workable, easy to read, coherent resume!
