Lesson Plan #4-Numbers 6 & 7

For this lesson I had planned on working with MK on writing and identifying numbers six

and seven. After teaching this lesson I found a few areas that did not go quite as planned. One

thing that delayed the lesson was when I was teaching MK the number six. MK knew how to

write the number six but was getting very confused with the touchpoints. I tried to explain it to

her in more depth, but she kept getting distracted so she was not paying attention. Therefore, I

had to continue teaching this to her instead of moving on. I kept trying to show her new ways to

look at it and eventually she got it. Unfortunately, by having to extend this portion of my teaching

I was unable to get to the teaching of the number seven. However, I was able to work on this

with her the next day I was at my school.

Even though we did not accomplish everything I wanted to during this lesson, MK did

improve a lot with getting distracted. Until the portion when I was trying to explain the

touchpoints in a different way, she did a really good job staying on task. In addition to paying

attention, MK also showcased what she knew about the number six when I asked her what she

knew. This gave me an understanding of what we needed to work on and what she already

knew.

Overall, this lesson was a good indicator that as an educator you always need to be

flexible. I had a whole lesson planned and I had to quickly think of how to make it different right

on the spot. I was able to learn a lot about myself and what I want to do better for next time.
