Subject: Math

Topic: Counting/Writing 1-10

Goal: M will be able to identify and write numbers 1-10 with 80% accuracy as given by a weekly
informal assessment.

Materials:
● Stickers
● Whiteboard
● Informal assessment
● Number flash cards

Preview:
The goal of this lesson is to work on counting 1-10 and focusing on writing the number eight and
nine consistently.

Review:
During the review I will work on warm up activities. First we will start with number recognition
using number flashcards. I will ask M “what is this number?”. Then once she answers correctly, I
will say “Okay, now show me ___ fingers”. Last I will ask M to tap a certain part of her body the
number of times that is stated on the flash cards. Next, we will go through our touch points for
number 1-9. I will tell M to count her touch points first and then trace the number.

Modeling:
During the modeling portion I will model to M how to write the number eight and nine. First, I will
write the number eight on a whiteboard and show her how to place the touchpoints. I will show
M how to place the touchpoints by placing stickers and then placing circles around the circles
counting them as we go. Then, I will write it and then ask M if she knows what number I wrote.
Next, I will work on the number nine. I will again write the number nine on my own with M while
placing my sticker touchpoints. Then I will write the number nine on my own again and ask M if
she knows what I wrote.

Guided Practice:
Now I will have M place stickers on her own numbers eight and nine and count out her
touchpoints. Next I will have her write the numbers eight and nine on her own three times.

Individual Practice:
For the individual practice I will give M a worksheet about writing the number eight and nine.
The worksheet will ask her to trace the numbers and then they leave space for her to write it on
her own. After she finishes with the worksheets I will ask her to write the numbers eight and nine
on a whiteboard with their touchpoints.

Evaluation:
Lastly, I will give M her informal assessment that asks M to write as many numbers as she can,
count as high as she can and identify as many numbers as she can.
