As I look at the history of education, I feel like there is a change that education goes

through like the changes that happened in history in general. In the 1950’s there were changes

that were around desegregating schools and making all students feel valued in their education

and in their community. In the 1960’s, that is when they started to reform education and provide

more funding to make improvements for poor children. There was the fall of education in 1970,

students test scores started to decline and this made a call to action and sparked a national debate

on improving the education in the United States. These actions created a roadmap for the 21st

century. There were priorities that our Presidents saw that needed action. In 1994, President

Clinton signed a law that set goals for school to achieve in their education plans and school

environment. As students still struggled that is when President George W. Bush signed the No

Child Left Behind Act. This led to making sure that there were qualified and certified teachers in

every U.S. classroom. It set a standard to make sure that every student was showing academic

progress every year. Common Core Standards Initiative was set to create a more “patchwork

quilt” learning for students. There were 45 states to formally accept these standards and

implement them into their schools by 2013.
