1. Count up to 100 objects to determine quantity

2. 1St grade
3. Small groups
4. Math (1) 1.1
5. Content Standards: 5.0 To solve problems, communicate, reason,
and make connections within and beyond the field of
mathematics, students will collect, organize, display, interpret,
and analyze data to determine statistical relationships and
probability projections.
Process Standards: 6.0 Students will develop their ability to solve
problems by engaging in developmentally appropriate problem
solving opportunities in which there is a need to use various
approaches to investigate and understand mathematical concepts
in order to: formulate their own problems; find solutions to
problems from everyday situations; develop and apply strategies
to solve a wide variety of problems; and integrate mathematical
reasoning, communication, and connections.
6. Objective: The student will understand and be able to recognize
what a quantity of 100 objects looks like. They will also learn to
recognize what the numbers look like and how to count to 100.
7. Materials: The students will need their bag of 100 pennies. They
will have those in their desk. The Missing Numbers worksheet
(located in the math basket on the bookshelf). Pencils to write in
the missing numbers.
8. Procedure: Ask students to get ready for Math. Students will need
their Math supplies which include a pencil and their bag of 100
pennies (if there are any students that don’t have theirs, I have
extras in a container labeled Math supplies in the cabinet). Pass
out the Missing Numbers worksheet (located in the Math basket
on the bookshelf). Don’t have the students start filling it out, this
is something they are going to do in their Math groups. Direct the
students to work together in their groups and fill in the missing
numbers on their worksheets. After they have filled it in, direct
them to take their pennies and place a penny in every box from 1
to 100. Explain to them that this is what is looks like when we
have a quantity of 100 and explain what quantity means. When
the entire class is complete use the projector to go over the
Missing Number worksheet with the class. Ask for participation
from the class when filling the worksheet in while using the
projector. When the worksheet is completed ask the students to
clear the pennies off their number sheet. Once all the students
have them cleared, they will need to put 50 pennies on their
number sheet. After they are completed make sure to show them
on your completed sheet what 50 looks likes. This will also be
done with the quantities of 60, 70, and 80.
9. Assessment: I will be measuring the students’ learning in this
lesson by using the Criterion-referenced assessment. Using this
assessment for this lesson plan will provide me with information
about the students’ level of understanding and ability of the
information in this lesson plan.
