Becoming an Effective Workplace Communicator

I. Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this learning module, the students should be able to:
1. State the importance of being an effective workplace communicator;
2. Describe an effective workplace communicator; and
3. Discuss conflicts and ways to resolve these in the workplace

II. Rationale

Effective communication occurs when a message is sent and received accurately. This module
features how to be a professional communicator, job interview, common job interviews, as well as
working environment ethics.

III. Content/Learning Experiences/Assessment

Effective Workplace Communication

Being an effective workplace communicator requires being able to understand the diversity
present in the workplace. Since the workplace is an employee’s second home, he or she should know how
to handle the different attitudes of his or her co-workers as well as clients. Effective communication in the
workplace can help bring about healthy relationships among co-workers and a productive work
environment which are both essential to a communicator’s personal wellness and career growth.

An employee starts his or her journey towards being an effective workplace communicator once
he or she applies for a job. A job interview, aside from gauging an applicant’s qualifications for a
position, is a measure of how one will be able to facilitate meaningful communication in the workplace.

The Job Interview

Acing the job interview presupposes getting hired. It entails thorough preparation as well as
practice to get the nod of the prospective employer. It is a personal sales talk that has to be prepared for. It
is the chance of an applicant to talk about his or her qualification for a particular job. It likewise
determines his or her personal values that may relate to how he or she will perform the job that must
address the employer's needs. It also demands great amount of confidence and effective communication
style to excel in this competitive process of job hunting.

It is in the job interview that an individual can prove that he or she is an effective workplace
communicator. In the interview, applicant must possess the necessary communication skills to properly
express himself or herself to the interviewer.

The verdict of an interview can either be a yes' or a 'no.' The qualified applicant is the one who
invests time, effort and preparation for the interview. He/she is sure that there is nothing instant in facing
one of the crossroads in life. All that he/she brings with him/her can make or break him/her.

With a number or so desirous to be considered for the job Vacancy, the interview is a kind of a
measuring stick whether one will turn out to be an asset or not to the hiring company.

Practical Reminders in Becoming an Effective Workplace Communicator


1. Know yourself in relation to your superiors, co-workers, and clients.
2. Manage time well while working.
3. See more of the lights and less of the shadows in others.
4. Accept your own limitations and those of others.
5. Keep communication lines open when needed.

As an effective workplace communicator, you must be able to handle conflicts in the workplace.
You should know how to resolve conflicts that would definitely affect workplace productivity. Aside
from working with workplace bullies, an effective workplace communicator must also be ready to resolve
issues of workplace mobbing and addressing the concerns of irate clients. Workplace mobbing is when a
worker or group of co-workers harasses other co-workers in order to secure the removal or termination of
the one being targeted for harassment.
Mutual respect and concern for one another as work partners and collaborators in the company
undertakings will ensure a healthy work environment that one desires to stay and be happy working. A
stress-free working atmosphere is priceless and rewarding. As an effective workplace communicator, one
should be responsible for working towards upholding workplace professionalism at all times.
