Part A: Background of the report

Company Profile/History

The PHP Family which was previously known as PHP Group Industries is a conglomerate
business and headquarters of the company is in Chittagong, Bangladesh. The company has been
established in the year 1969 and the founder of the company is Alhaj Sufi Mohamed Mizanur
Rahman who is also known as the chairman of the group. Alhaj Sufi Mohamed Mizanur Rahman
wanted to change the shape of conglomerate business in Bangladesh and now PHP Family has
30 companies that are operating a diversified business like; Steel, Float Glass, Aluminum,
Textile, Power, Perto Refinery, Financial Services, Argo and many more. The PHP family
known as the pioneer of the float and steel industries in Bangladesh and PHP family has been
exploring new business sector endlessly by adopting innovating and eco-friendly technologies.
Every activity of the company is fully focused on the progress of the country and the betterment
of people’s life. The company is aiming to make more economic value and more contribution to
society with the help of their business activities.

From PHP Group of Industries to PHP Family

The PHP Group of Industries has been first created with a vision of ensuring coherent, combined
and consolidation of the management, financial and the marketing strengths among the various
different units under the PHP umbrella by focusing on the team spirit, cooperation for exploring
potentials for making a sustainable and durable business organization In Bangladesh. But later
on, the Broad of the company realized that the employer and employees of the organization are
part of the organization and with their contribution and involvement the company can easily
achieve business success. That is the time the broad of the company perceived all the employers
and employee of the company belongs to a family which is now known as PHP Family.
Management Structure

For managing a successful business every company has to follow a management structure.

The structure management of PHP Family has been given below -

According to the image here, the top management of the PHP Family is the Broad of directors,
chairman or CEO of the company. The middle management people are those people who are the
departmental heads, branch managers of the company and lastly the first-line management is
those people who are the foreman, supervisors and the workers of the company. The CEO of
PHP Family, Alhaj Sufi Mohamed Mizanur Rahman and his sons takes all the initial decision of
the company. The middle management is those who are the manager, HR head, plant manager,
Chittagong divisional manager, etc. And lastly, the first-line management of the PHP family is
the workers who work in the lower level like who transform the input into output.

This table above indicates that there are some changes which have been occurred gradually
during the last five years in Turnover, Profit before and after tax, Shareholders equity, Current
assets and liabilities of PHP Family. The turnover has an increasing trend but the percentage
fluctuates from 2014 to 2016 and in the year 2016 the percentage has been decreased by 4.8%.
The mission of PHP is to increase the turnover by 100% in every five year and they are working
on this mission from 2019.
Initial capital:

The group has 30 companies, currently working on these products like steal, glass, agro, real
estate, ship recycling and rubber and latex They have started with 50 crore tk and their first
office was allocated in Chittagong, which is known as their main office now. PHP group is
planning to launch an automobile company, with the help of a foreign company within 2022.
Their budget is 800 crore tk.

Flat steel:

PHP have set the pace of steel industry and holds the largest manufacturer of cold roles coil and
galvanized steel coils, sheets, corrugated sheets in Bangladesh. Back to October 1999 php started
journey with flat steel products by establishing php cold rolling mills ltd with a production
capacity of 120000 TPA and minimum thickness of .098 mm. It’s the steel which gives PHP the
identity of leading industrial conglomerate of Bangladesh.

Glass:

PHP established PHP float glass in 2004 with annual production capacity of 40000mt.It has set
up with technical assailant from Luoyang technology glass technology of china.
Real state:

They have some ongoing project under real state, they are-

Agro:

PHP agro product limited located in Dinajpur, with an area of 100 acres. Now its focuses on
fresh fruits like mango strawberry. Under agro their main products are-

Long steel:

To cater the needs of rapidly growing construction industry in Bangladesh, PHP added long steel
products, TMT bars to its manufacturing catalogue, in 2010 PHP ispat limited has embraced a
semi auto rolling mill. AMK steels Ltd, PHP has modified the plant in to full automated re
rolling mill that is now producing 500 w TMT Bar.

Textile:

PHP spinning mill limited is the earlier sekandar spinning mill ltd that established in 1997with
21600 spindles. They are working under textile:

Fisheries:

It located on teknafupzila of Coxs Bazar. Under fisheries they are working on –

 Shrimp farming
 Natural fish

 Salt

Ship recycling:

PHP breaking and recycling industries since march 2000 is only recycling company in
Bangladesh which complying the requirements of Hong Kong international convention.

Their main focus under aluminum are-

Rubber and Latex:

These products are mostly sold on domestic market. Rubber plantation indigenous labors are
mostly employed, few people worked here to change the tribal economic scenario.

Part B: Planning

A quality circle is one of the important tool as it will help out many organizational problems in
PHP moreover the chances of gaining the profits outline targets will also gets enhanced it is one
of the important quality upgrade modules there is also one another tool which is QITs quality
improvement teams but it only depends and focus on business processes rather than separate
company functions but it has no relation with the other members of the organization it is not
recommended because in every business and organizations to be successful and smooth
operations the part of the members and all members need to be involved in so that they will
understand the current organization problems and solve them according to their views and
suggest what they want to in fact this is important because if you will give importance to every
member of the team and solve the problems by sitting together it’s a good way of solving
problems and the end result will be a smooth and non-problematic way of achieving the
organization goals.

To achieve organization goals, PHP group has 2 different strategies:

1. Corporate Level Strategies:

 To enhance the growth, PHP group is planning to launch an automobile company,


with the help of a foreign company within 2022. Their budget is 800 crore tk.
 They are planning to introduce glass with a better quality to keep up with
competitors
 They have updated technologies in service and production unit by installing new
machineries
 They have switched to highly performance based management strategy
 Evaluating current ready stock
 Evaluating machine capacity

2. Functional Level Strategies:

 By using segmentation
 By using market development ( collecting current demand from the marketing team)
 By using product development (includes production quality, chemical and metal
composition ratio)

Management Functions: The management of PHP group is following ‘POLCA’ method. This
stands for:

 P = Planning
 O = Organizing
 L = Leading
 C = Controlling
 A = Assurance

Planning: The planning department of PHP group follows two different types of plans:

1. Strategic Plan: PHP group has strategic plan to increase its market value worth of
market and its market share. They work on a well defined strategic plan for this.
2. Operational Plan: Include launching a new product to change or innovates its product
line for customers.
Part C: Planning Practices of PHP Group

Pre-Planning:

In this initial phase, all existing management commitments such as land use planning direction,
government to government agreements, and previous management plans for a protected area are
compiled. From there the regional planning staff determines where each potential management
planning project fits within regional and provincial priorities. To enhance the growth, PHP group
is planning to launch an automobile company.

Initial Planning:

This stage involves reviewing existing information about the protected area’s values and
potential management issues, determining how complex and in-depth the management planning
process needs to be, local communities, and public interests in the protected area, developing a
process to address the identified interests and concerns and establishing a management planning
project team. The outcome of the initial planning stage is a project plan.
Draft Management Plan:

During this stage, the planning team will identify the values, vision and principles that will guide
future management of the protected area. Previously identified interests and issues are discussed,
and appropriate management direction is developed in the form of a vision, management
objectives and strategies, and a zoning plan.

Finalizing Management Plan:

This stage involves the review of all submissions received during the public review period and
the subsequent editing of the plan if and as required. Following the review and approval of the
draft management plan, the management plan is finalized. The public is notified when the final
management plan has been approved.

Implementation:

The implementation of a finalized management plan is an ongoing process.

 Creativity:

PHPemployees are selected for their knowledge, skills, and creative abilities. The firm’s
organizational culture highlights the importance of creativity. Employees involved in product
design and development processes are especially creative. This characteristic of’ PHP s
organizational culture helps the firm maintain the capacity to develop solutions to business needs
and consumer needs.

 Innovation:

PHP’s organizational culture is also highly innovative. All employees are trained and encouraged
to innovate in terms of individual work performance and by contributing ideas to the firm’s
product development processes. PHP’s organizational culture succeeds in facilitating rapid
innovation, which is at the heart of the business.

 Secrecy:

PHP strictly maintains the Whistleblowing policy. The aim of the whistleblowing policy is to
encourage employees and others who have serious concerns about any aspect of the Council's
work to come forward and voice those concerns. Secrecy is part of the company’s strategy to
minimize theft of proprietary information or intellectual property. Upon hiring, PHP employees
agree to this organizational culture of secrecy, which is reflected in the firm’s policies, rules and
employment contracts.

Monitoring and Evaluation:

Based on the results of the evaluations, management direction may need to be adjustedor
modifications may need to be made to the management plan to adjust to any changes in societal,
cultural or natural resource values associated with the protected area.

Finally, we would like to recommend that the existing company culture support our
recommended strategies.

Part D: Recommendation & Conclusion

Recommendations & Conclusion

 The company should take more projects about 'Proton PHP'because Removal of
unemployment.
 The company should establish run and maintain School, College, Madrasha, University
and such other educational institutions.
 Manpower should be increased at every department in the company. By doing this the
service will be better
 Conclusion At the end of this report it can be conclude that PHP Group efficiently
performing their servicing activities.
 They are offering a wide variety quality services to their clients and they believe that
clients are their first priority.
 In these five years this organizations bearing the position of third and fourth.
 By analyzing their financial statements in recent five years (year 2012-2016) it has been
founded that their earnings, profitability, liquidity ratios over years is showing some
years upward and downward.
 Some beginning years their financial performance was not satisfactory. But till this is the
potential organizations which can reach top one and two positions.
 Measuring and evaluating this performance was the major objective of this study
 Finally, I believe that PHP Group will concentrate to their profitability more by
maintaining their customer value and goodwill in order to gain market leadership in the
advertising sector of Bangladesh.
