Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics

Grade 8 (Day 2)

I .Objectives
Given a 60-minute activity, the students will be able to:
1. Give the steps in solving the polynomials with common monomial factors correctly.
2. Solve five (5) problem in common monomial factors in 15 minutes.
3. Shows determination and patience in solving common monomial factors

II. Content
Topic: Pattern and Algebra (Polynomials with common monomial factors)
Reference: Made Math Easy for Grade 8 pages 21-22
Authors: Domingo, B., Mandac, BV. & Manding, N.
Materials: Flash cards

III. Procedure

TESCHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY

A. Preliminary Activity
Greetings!
Check the attendance (Raise their hands when their names
mention)
Today’s lesson, I am going to discuss (Answers may vary)
polynomials with common monomial
factors. But before we start, let’s try to recall
our previous lessons.
B. Motivation
In this lesson it is very essential to know Everyone is solving and participating.
how to get the Greatest Common Factor
(GCF). So, to recall let’s have a drill in
getting GCF. I will show flashcards then
solve on your paper and tell me the answer.
1. 12 and 6
2. 18 and 54
3. 4 and 36
4. 5,10 and 10
5. 24,36 and 12

How you define our activity? Answers may vary

It helps a lot? Answers may vary

Since we already recall the GCF let us now

proceed to our lesson for today.

C. Presentation
Common factor means factorable. Such
expression can be factored by dividing the
polynomial by the GCF.
For example, 36x4y5- 27x2y3. Now, the first
thing that we need to do is to separate the
coefficient and variables.

So, the coefficients are the following:

36= 2X2X3X3
27= 3X3X3 Everyone is solving
Let’s get the GCF!
The GCF is 9.

And the variables are x4y5 and x2y3.

Note: That the variable with least exponent
that appears in each term of the polynomial.
- X and Y are both common to all terms
and 2 is the smallest exponent for x and
3 is the smallest exponent for y; thus,
x2y3 is the GCF of the variables.

Can you follow? (Response may vary)

Combining the GCF of the coefficients and

variables. Then, the GCF of 36x4y5- 27x2y3
is 9x2y3.

Another example is 25xy4z3-55x3y5+75y2z4.

(Following the steps of the first example)

Another example is 12x2w-36x3y+24x4z

(Follow the steps)
D. Generalization
In this topic, there are some steps to follow (Students will recite)
in order to answer the questions easier.
Can you elaborate the steps in getting the
factor of monomials?

E. Evaluation
Direction: In a one whole sheet of paper,
answer the following in 15 minutes:
1. 4x2+36x
2. 24x2y3+72x3y5
3. 5y3+20y-10y2
4. 3x(x-y)-y(x-y)
5. 2x(5a+3b)-5y(5a+3b)

F. Assignment
Copy your assignment and put it in your
assignment notebook.

Answer the following with complete

solutions:
1. 36ab+6b2
2. 108a3b4-72a2b5+144a2b2
3. 6x(x+2)-5(x+2)
