Reflection Journal:
- Feel: I felt bored when I started to read ‘To kill the mockingbird’1. Usual books began
with an incident, but this book wasn't. The book was talking about the people in the small
town. Since the book was too dull to read, we discuss why the book was boring, and we
found out the author wanted to describe the character well. Trying to find a small event
and focusing on the chapter helped me to concentrate on the character and storyline. It
makes me feel I am doing well!
- Think: I think the author wrote this book with lots of passion. Because the description of
the town is realistic and also the conversation between Dill, Jem, and Scout is also
practical. Especially the dialect helps me to think the year that the incident happened.
- Like: I liked the way I learn VAMPOSSA in the class. Because I already knew about the
method to describe the character with those words. It was impressive compared to Korean
literature. American literature with Metaphors is straightforward than Korean literature,
but the story written in Scout's sight, which makes the novel sweet. And it was fun and
impressive comparing the world's Onomatopoeia. After the class, I explained to my
friend about the difference in the world's animal sounds which was exciting. Overall, I
liked the concept that I learned in the class, but it was also challenging to find the simile
and metaphor from the real sentence.
- Dislike: I dislike some of old and grammar destructed sentences. Since it is still not easy
to read an English novel, when I met those kinds of the sentence, I am confused. I dislike
LCA assignment because it was challenging to think and find the meaning of the word
which doesn't use nowadays. But tried to infer what its' original meaning.

When enough years had gone Page 3, For text to self, When I was 17 years old, I was so

time, it was like a nightmare and didn’t want to go
back. But now, my family and I sometimes talked
about it quickly. So, I chose this quote because it
seems similar to my experience that I can
emphasize well.

Scout, I’m tellin’ you for the Page 58, For text to text, this quote makes me think about
last time, shut your trap or go speaker: the song ‘pretty girl2’ (Lindemann, 2017). This
home – I declare to the lord Jem song criticizes the situation women faced. Most of
you’re getting’ more like a the people said to women to be pretty and behave

not smoke; women should not hang out with guys.
But the singer Maggie Lindemann said she
wouldn’t follow the unspoken rule that the world
expected to the girls. And the quote from the book
made me remind this song. Because in the book,
Jem kept talking about the behavior that girls
would have.

This time we aren’t fighting Page 87, For text to world, Korea also has pain similar to
the Yankees, we’re fighting speaker: America. I think the civil war and the Korean war
our friends. But remember Atticus have the same parts about family, friends. I
this, no matter how bitter searched for the Korean war. I chose an article3
things get, they’re still our about the thought of the Korean American about
friends and this is still our the unity of North Korea and South Korea because
home (Lee, 2006, p.87). Korean Americans also think North Korea and
South Korea are still family and friends (DeTrani,
Babson, & Gallucci, 2018). How much bad
experiences we had in the past, we are still family
and friends. And i agree with Atticus’s opinion
that future generations should put their efforts to
change the discrimination or the problem they
faced. Because I think the family can maintain by
the effort from the member of the family. To me,
Atticus seems like a real adult. Because Atticus
has faith in right-thinking and he can fulfill his
faith by defending Tom Robinson. This difference
between Atticus and my country makes me feel
embarrassed.

We looked at her in surprise, Page 13, For text to text, this quote makes me think about
for Calpurnia rarely speaker: the movie ‘The Help4’ (Pringle, 2014). The scene I
commented on the ways of Scout choose shows the segregation well. This movie is

woman writer tried to write about the reality that
black people who worked as a maid should obey
to the white people and cannot take the same bus. I

think about it because the character Calpurnia is
also a maid in Mr. pinch’s house. Although she
worked in the lawyer’s house who have right-
thinking about the black people, she didn’t feel
comfortable to talk with them. Since the timeline
of the book ‘To kill the mockingbird’ is earlier
than 1960, which is the timeline of the movie,
Calpurnia might undergo several discriminations
in the town. Those similar condition makes me
think about this movie and making me curious
about the difference between 1930s discrimination
and 1960s discrimination. Because in the book,
Atticus tried to modify the race discrimination and
teaching his daughter about discrimination.
Despite all these efforts, it seems like there were
no significant changes.
