S.A. Project Narrative

Learning Goals & Outcomes

● Essential questions

○ Who do you want to be in the future?

○ What resources do you have that will help you reach your future goals?

○ What people in your community have influenced you if anyone?

○ What types of questions do you have regarding your future goals?

○ What other things do you see in your future?

■ Kids, Car, State of residency, Living style, etc.

● Students will…

○ Have an understanding of goal setting

○ Learn how to articulate

○ Learn how to build beyond “because” sentences

○ Subject, Standard, Concept, Performance Objective (PO)

● This generation in the 21st Century is very diverse in the sense that school is no longer

the only traditional path to take. This activity will give students an opportunity to explore

other ways to succeed besides cornbread with a college after graduation. This

assignment will also expose students to careers that are lucrative, long-term, and geared

towards their passions. Oftentimes, students go to school because they think it is the

right thing to do, but not necessarily the best thing for them. My objective for this

assignment is that students will be able to explore various paths and choose things that

interest them and benefit them best despite what the rest of their peers may be doing
this way, they know they are supported in school, even if they choose not to further the

education in a traditional University setting.

Description of Project-Based Learning Unit Activities

● Each day, students will do a warm-up activity that will introduce a new portion of the

game. For example, day one will be geared towards career building. Day two, will be

geared toward family make-up. Other activities include looking at local resources that are

aligned with the students’ end goals for the game. Along with these, there will be an

interview portion of the project as well.

○ Day 1: Introduction of the project. On day one, I will also be showing my grading

rubric, examples, and leaving time for all questions

○ Day 2: Day two will start with a warm- up activity that will consist of choosing 5

future occupations and why. This will give me a good start and a visual of what

my students are interested in.

○ Day 3: Day three will consist of effective note-taking. I will introduce Marzano

strategies to ensure I am reaching all of the important points.

○ Day 4: On day 4, I will give an in-depth overview of what is expected for the 5

things chosen on day 3. We will work down to 1 of the 5 and begin drafting the

written portion, the draft will be due on day 5.

○ Day 5: Day 5 will look at the rough draft for the writing component and give

feedback, this will be done with peer reviews. The final copy will be due on day 7.

○ Day 6: On day 6 we will begin creating the physical game. We will use the

provided tools to first map the vision. This will be due on Day7, along with the

final written draft.

○ Day 7: On day 7, the final draft of the written component is due, as well as the

drafted vision for the board.

○ Day 8: Day 8 will be an entire day dedicated to working in class on the final

project. It will be due on day 9 and presentations will be day 10.

○ Day 9: On day 9, I will collect all final games and essays. I will look over each

game and ensure it is ready for sharing on Day 10.

○ Day 10: On day 10, students will present their games, followed by a feedback

sheet. This will be for both me and the students. They can give me in depth

feedback on the parts they did and did not like, as well as things they would

change if this could be done again in the future.

● These activities will ensure that students are able to effectively communicate their

thoughts and ideas. It is imperative that students are able to talk and write out their

ideas. With seventh graders, it is important that they can articulate and fully formulate

ideas with well developed meaning.

Technology Support

● Technology will be used in daily activities; however, students will not be dependent on it.

The project will still be able to be completed without the use of technology, but it will be

used to help students find supporting resources.

● There is a professional assigned to each school that will oversee and support the use of

technology. This is necessary because as a teacher I will not always be available to help

with every technology downfall. Having some of my team that is able to support me in

this way will ensure that my students are getting the best help they can get in a

technology aspect, and from an expert.

○ This is also great for this project because my students will have another example

of a career path they can take.

Sustaining the Project after the Proposal Period

● Based on the outcome of the first project, I will be able to assess what needs to be

modified. I will do this by asking my students to provide feedback so that I can enhance

this project for future students. This will engage the community and its leaders because

students will be asked to interview someone in the community. With this project, I hope

to open a new lens for my students for opportunities they may not have knowledge on.

Innovation

● This project is something students can physically take home with them. It is comparable

to a vision board and will be useful in their futures. It allows flexibility in the sense that

they can alter and change things as they progress. This project is meant to give

exposure and a unique outlook on life after middle school and high school. Along with

these useful tips, students will learn how to talk to leaders and people that influence

them in the local community.
