Group3 CHAPTER 3 Methodology
Research Design
This study involves the procedure method including the control or the
making the mosquito coil, grinding, of the ponkan peelings and coconut husk, mixing
of the ingredients, molding if the mixture, and drying of the molded coil.
The experimental phase assures to attain the needed data and findings, and
experimental groups, gathering data, and comparing it to one or more control groups
is the appropriate design to assure the reliability of the experimentation and also to
determine the effect of the ponkan peelings and other included ingredients to Aedes
aegypti mosquito.
Preparation of Materials
Organic mosquito coil out of ponkan peelings used different materials provided
by the researchers. The main material used is the ponkan peelings which is obtained
from some stores and eateries residing at Biñan City, Laguna. Damages or soon to
perish ponkan in the market was also collected for a cheaper price. Some ponkan
peelings was collected from the leftovers in few canteens. Adults Aedes aegypti
mosquito was bought by the researchers at RITM Alabang that costs Php 2000. The
coconut husk which was also used in the making of the organic mosquito coil was
collected in some stores of coconuts for free. Cornstarch used for binding was bought
locally in the market while the mosquito coil used a ls a molder of the mixture for the
organic mosquito coil was also bought in the market. Other materials like oven,
weighing scale, blender, basin , and water are provided by the researchers from their
houses.
The researchers chose the place where the experimentation and testing was
National High School, Romana Subdivision, Brgy. San Antonio, Biñan City, Laguna,
This study will be conducted during the period of June 2018 to March 2019.
PROCEDURES
Peeling of Ponkan
In order for the researcher to peel the ponkan they used for the experiment, the
researcher bought first the ponkan from the market, they prepared it in the table and
Coconut husk which is used in making the mixture is burned until it turns like a
Grinding
The blender used for grinding is in the power 3. The ponkan peelings are grinded
using the blender until it is powderized . The coconut husk was blended separately
Mixing
After grinding, the ground ponkan peelings and the ground coconut husk are mixed
together as the base material. Next, the cornstarch is mixed with a little amount of
water and serves as the binder. Then, put the mixture in a basin and mixed it
thoroughly.
Molding
The researchers will mold the organic mosquito coil using the commercialized
mosquito coil itself. The mixed material will be put on the space of the coil and cover
Drying
The molded organic mosquito coil is placed in an oven for 3 minutes under a
temperature 75°C. After it solidify, the organic mosquito coil it is dried once again
under the sun to totally dry the product before being used on a test for gathering data
results.
