N479 Professional Activity Evaluation Form

Your Name: Himani Sullhan Date of Activity: 10/5, 11/11, 11/19 Faculty name: Rajni Parmar

Describe the community service/professional activity/s you attended or participated with

(be specific about the purpose and your role):

The first professional activity I attended was Stop the Bleed. The purpose of this activity was to

train the audience on the appropriate actions to take if there was an active shooter and how to

help others who are injured if it is safe to do so. My role in this activity was to learn the different

options we have in an active shooter situation and how to prolong life in the case of a serious

injury with the use of tourniquets. The second professional activity I attended was Basic Life

Support for Healthcare Providers recertification. The purpose of this course was to provide CPR

in the event of cardiac arrest. My role was to refresh my memory on the techniques used for CPR

in a public setting and in the hospital. The last professional activity I attended was an Integrative

Cardiology lecture by Dr. Aneela Cox. This activity taught the audience about integrative

modalities to improve heart health including supplements and emotional/mental health. My

purpose was to learn how to implement integrative methods into my nursing care.

Where was this held and what was was program/activity length?

Stop the Bleed was held at CON in room 117 for 4 hours. Basic Life Support was held at Eclipse

CPR training for 3 hours. The Integrative Cardiology lecture was held at the University of

Arizona College of Medicine Alvernon offices for 1 hour.

Discuss the value of this experience to you (be specific).

Stop the Bleed was extremely valuable in learning what to do in emergency situation. This event

highlighted the fact that everyone thinks they will never be in a situation with an active shooter,

but with the patterns in today’s society it is becoming more and more common. The CPR training
was a great refresher for me to remind myself of when to provide CPR and proper technique. The

Integrative Cardiology lecture was valuable because it taught us ways to improve heart health

that are alternative to medications.

How would you continue to use this experience throughout your nursing career?

I would use these experiences throughout my nursing career by implementing the content I

learned in the hospital setting and in cases of emergency. I hope to never have to provide care to

others in a situation with an active shooter but it is essential to know how to if it were to happen.

The content taught during Stop the Bleed could also be implemented with trauma patients. The

Integrative Cardiology lecture could be used throughout my nursing career by encouraging

patients to live a heart healthy lifestyle with nutrition and exercise.

Would you recommend this specific communnity/professional experience in the future; why
or why not? (Describe)

I would recommend these professional experiences because I feel like they all covered important

information that we should know as nurses. CPR is important to stay informed and updated about

because it could happen to any patient at any time in the hospital. Stop the Bleed was important

to bring awareness to an issue that is heavily impacting our community. I recommend the

Integrative Cardiology lecture because cardiovascular is one of the most common diseases in the

country and the #1 leading cause of death.
