AWARENESS
CAMPAIGN
FOR GRADE 10
PARENTS
(DOCUMENTATION AND NARRATIVE REPORT)

S.Y. 2016-2017

October 14, 2016

INTRODUCTION:

Support from the local government units (LGUs) and General Parents-Teachers Associations (GPTAs)
continues to pour out as the Department of Education (DepEd) gears up for the full implementation of the K to
12 Program. Supporters believe that the new K to 12 curriculum is designed to allow students to acquire 21st
century skills that will gain them access to a wide array of opportunities, should they choose to be employed,
become a young entrepreneur or enter college. However, there are still some LGUs, parents, and even students
themselves who are still uncertain whether to give their full support to the implementation of the K to 12
program as majority of the Filipinos already did. As for some of them the new curriculum is "impractical" –as it
doesn’t really matter if the Philippines add two (2) more years, and the parents will need more income for the
additional (two) 2 years of their children.

Since the attention of the mass is still likely divided into two (2), one of the activities of the Career
Guidance Program (CGAP), is to launch a Senior High School Awareness Campaign for Grade 10 Parents with
various Private High Schools, Colleges, and Universities; Local Universities and Colleges (LUC); State
Universities and Colleges (SUCs); and Technical and Vocational Schools, in their respective campuses to help
the Senior High School parents be more aware of the new K to 12 curriculum in the Philippines.

Rizal Experimental Station and Pilot School of Cottage Industries (RESPSCI), as one of the schools who
have the full capacity to implement the Senior High School Program, actively participated in the said program
of DepEd. With Mr. Louie C. Duterte, RGC, in the front line, the Grade 10 parents of RESPSCI were helped to
discuss and to take into detail the benefits that their children will get under the K to 12 program and to answer
some of their frequently asked questions regarding it. RESPSCI also took this opportunity to inform the Grade
10 parents that should they transfer their children to another school, university, tech-voc school, et.al, for the
continuity of their children’s study to Grade 11 under the K to 12 program, the parents, as well as the students
themselves must not hesitate to still choose RESPSCI. Among the four (4) career tracks under this program,
RESPSCI specializes in the Technical-Vocational track. Aside from that, RESPSCI also offers TESDA
National Certificates 2 and 3, so that the students –then of employable age upon graduation can now apply
easily for a decent entry-level job if they don’t want to go to college yet. The “Open-Forum” segment for the
Grade 10 parents were conducted by Ms. Cristina A. Soliven. This campaign happened on October 14, 2016,
9:00 am, at the RESPSCI covered court.

OBJECTIVES:
