Pathos:
- Use the interview to get understanding/sympathy and the fears people have with
deciding a major, from the students viewpoint and the teacher’s viewpoint.

Opening:
Hello, welcome to “The Major Question”, a podcast focusing on the question “how do I know If
the college major I picked is right for me, I’m your host Chase Auzenne. Today’s episode will be
focusing on the aspects that influence the way students decide on majors and what should be
done about them.

Sources:
- “his article goes on to reveal, “Blindly pursuing a degree solely for financial reasons can
backfire if a student washes out because of lack of ability or switches majors, or schools,
because of a lack of interest” (Weston).” says florida national university, as quoted from
weston.
- Joe pinsker describes in his article “rich kids study english” a viewpoint similar to this, by
describing a scenario of someone choosing a more practical major “ in turn, those
practical subjects would give [their] children’s children room “to study painting, poetry,
music, architecture, statuary, tapestry, and porcelaine.’” which mimics a thought process
a student can have in deciding a major.

claim-Some people may say you should select your major based on your likelihood of getting a
job in the future or on subjects you have a high skill level in so you know you’ll be successful.

In my personal stance i believe Passion for a subject is most important to take into
consideration, Passion can be the defining factor to motivate you through the difficult classes
and prevent a burn out. And just because your passion may lead you to a class that isn’t say
STEM or Accounting doesn’t mean you wont get a job, it just means you need to be smart with
where your looking in the future/your plan of attack

So in conclusion, selecting a major is a balancing act between your passion and future
prospects with passion being at the forefront but at the same time taking the future prospects
into consideration to turn that passion into something viable.
With answering the question of “which major is right for me” i can help prevent students from
going into majors they are unsuited for and hopefully end up with happier and more beneficial
futures.
This is the end of the podcast and Thanks to all you listeners out there and a special thanks to
