Carol Brown’s problem is that her classroom is divided and not concentrating on class, but on a

missing pencil case. Carol has tried to guide their attention from a ‘stolen’ pencil case to a
wrongly taken pencil case. Carol’s objective for her class is probably honor, dignity, and respect
for themselves, others and herself. I would have done the same thing as Carol, which was trying
to reason with the kids, and letting them know that stealing is wrong, but also trying to allow the
students time to speak up and speak their opinion, and slightly guiding them in the right
direction. I think Carol should have an individual conversation with each of her students, it’s a
lengthy process but it would give them the privacy to confess to taking the pencil case. Carol has
to let them know also that stealing something isn’t the solution to getting what you want. She
also needs to let them know that yes stealing does have consequences, but if you own up to your
mistakes the punishments are not as significant.
