TEACHER PROFESSIONAL GROWTH PLAN

Name: Regan Walton

School: Joane Cardinal-Shubert High School

Goal #1 Timeline
Implement and reinforce definitive classroom rules to improve classroom Ongoing in PS3
management placement
Strategies & Other Considerations
Setting expectations of students (e.g. changed and ready when class starts,
listening when I am talking, assignments must be submitted on time, show
respect for others/no bullying/judgment, best efforts when participating) failing to
do these could result in me pulling them aside for a conversation or contacting
parents depending on severity
If cellphones are out they must be put away unless permitted for the activity
Observation and discussion to ensure students are being safe in a potentially
dangerous environment
Resources Competencies
Teacher Mentors 2(f), 6(a, c)
Internet
Reflection
Classroom management is crucial in order to have an effective learning environment. Reinforcing those
classroom expectations was important to keep students on track and avoid distractions within the class.
There were multiple times that certain students would see what they could get away with. Different
students responded to different forms of punishment. Some just needed a reminder to stay focused where
as others would require a conversation after class. In the worst cases I would have to email or make a
phone call home. Staying on top of these students prevented them from continuing the action. Finding the
balance of being too easy going and too strict is something that each teacher needs to look for. Students
must respect you as the teacher in order to effectively follow classroom expectations. This is something I
have improved on greatly and will continue to work on in my future teaching practices.

Goal #2 Timeline
Develop working relationships with each student and ensure that there is an Ongoing in PS3
inclusive learning environment placement
Strategies & Other Considerations
Create a team environment (do some icebreaker activities, use resources such as
group me to assure everyone is always included, encourage students to share
there ideas, make sure students feel safe physically and emotionally/not
pressuring them to do something they are uncomfortable with)
Do bonding activities as a class (make time for fun short activities before or at the
end of class when possible)
Participate in the activities/workouts especially the ones that the students are not
looking forward to
Occasionally partner students up with someone new for workouts or activities and
make sure everyone has a partner (although I will do my best to create an
inclusive environment there will most likely be students who are still marginalized)

Reflection
This has been one of my greatest strengths throughout my practicum. I feel I was able to connect with
each student in both of my classes. Creating these effective relationships will help foster an inclusive
environment in the classroom. I wanted to be approachable for students to feel like they can come talk to
me about whatever positive or negative things may be going on in their lives. Some students may not
have someone they can talk to at home so it is important that they have someone that they have someone
that they can talk to at school.
