population of around 21,000 is spread across 250 islands forming the western chain of

individual reefs and 900 islands stretching for over 2,300 kilometres (1,400 mi) over an area
of approximately 344,400 square kilometres (133,000 sq mi). The reef is located in the Coral

the Equator in the Pacific Ocean, 906 km (563 mi) west of continental Ecuador, of which
they are a part. The islands are famed for their vast number of endemic species.
Lake Baikal is the freshwater lake with greatest volume in the world, containing roughly 20%
of the world's unfrozen surface fresh water, and at 1,642 m (5,387 ft), the deepest. It is also
among the clearest of all lakes, and thought to be the world's oldest lake at 25 million years. It
