The small hydraulic hammers operate under the constant blow energy cycle. In this system, the low pressure circuit
maintains constant force on the piston (5) by opening the low pressure passage to the tank when the oil pressure exceeds a
preset limit. Control valve (6) balances the oil pressure in the low pressure circuit against the spring force.

When the host machine auxiliary circuit does not provide oil flow, the pressure in the hammer is low. This keeps the oil
distributor (4) and the piston (5) in a neutral position. The startup cycle begins when supply oil is sent from the host machine
to the hammer. Supply oil enters the hammer at control valve (6). Spring force holds the valve spool (3) to the right. This
directs oil to the low pressure and the high pressure circuits. Oil pressure in the hammer increases. The increase in oil
pressure begins to shift the valve spool (3) to the left. This closes the oil path from the high pressure circuit to the low
pressure circuit. The low pressure circuit is in a precharged state. Oil pressure continues to increase in the high pressure
circuit. This will cause the hammer lifting cycle to begin.

Control valve (6) directs supply oil to the oil distributor (4), the high pressure accumulator (2), and the bottom land of the oil
distributor (8). The oil distributor (4) moves up. This directs oil at the top of the piston (7) to the tank. The high pressure oil
at the bottom land of the piston (9) raises the piston (5). As the piston (5) moves up, the upper land of the piston (10) pushes
oil into the low pressure circuit. This compresses the nitrogen gas inside the low pressure accumulator (1). The oil pressure
in the low pressure circuit increases.

(8) High Pressure shoulder of Oil Distributor, (9) Bottom land of Piston, (10) Upper land of Piston, (11) Pilot passage and (12) Low Pressure
shoulder of Oil Distributor

In the fully raised position, the bottom land of the piston (9) allows the high pressure oil to flow through the pilot passage
(11) to the low pressure shoulder of the oil distributor (12). The oil distributor (4) moves down. This directs supply oil to the
top of the piston (7). The oil pressure at the top of the piston (7) and the oil pressure at the bottom land of the piston (9) are
equal. This will balance the piston (5). The oil pressure from the low pressure accumulator (1) acts on the upper land of the
piston (10). This forces the piston (5) to move down. The piston (5) strikes the tool.

Piston

When the piston (5) strikes the tool, the high pressure oil at the top of the oil distributor (4) is drained to the low pressure
circuit. Supply pressure moves the oil distributor (4) upward. The oil is directed from the top of the piston (7) to the tank.
The next lifting cycle begins.

Note: The high pressure accumulator (2) protects the auxiliary circuit supply line from pressure spikes. Only the low
pressure circuit accelerates the piston (5). This allows the piston (5) to provide the same impact force for each impact.
