Dear Dayna Vucurevich,

Recently I have been informed that I will have the pleasure to be a part of your
classroom. My name is Shaelyn Haynes and I am in my third year at the University of
Lethbridge studying Education and Kinesiology. Before attending the University, I grew up in
Medicine Hat. From a young age, I began playing sports and concentrated mostly on volleyball,
basketball and high jump. During breaks from school, I spend a lot of time with my family in the
mountains, whether it is to ski or go backpacking. This is my favourite way to spend time with
my parents, brother and cousins. I have always been one to fill my time with sports or outdoor
activities due to my constant seak for adventure. I am known for partaking in thrilling
experiences such as skydiving and I, of course, have a very long bucket list.
Up to date, I have had a few opportunities working with children. My most impactful
experiences working with children were working Daycamps at the YMCA, working at the Ralston
military summer camp, and my Education 2500 classroom observations. Each one of these
opportunities provided me with very different takeaways and I feel I have grown immensely from
each one. In my most recent employment at the Ralston Summer Camp, I had a lot of
leadership roles with the children and had many opportunities to lead group activities. This
gave me a sense of how it would be in a classroom and I am excited to use some of my newly
gained skills during my practicum this Fall.
After my experiences working with children, I feel I have grown a lot as a leader.
However, there are still many things I hope to learn before beginning my profession as a
teacher. This semester I have set out a few goals for myself. One skill I hope to take away
from this practicum experience is the ability to accommodate different learners and provide
them with appropriate tools for success. I believe it is very important that all students feel
comfortable and included in the classroom, no matter their level of ability. Having never had the
chance to plan and teach a lesson before, I hope to learn strategies, tools, and time
management in order to do so effectively. In entering your classroom, I hope to form relations
with each student and help continue to create a positive learning environment. I am looking
forward to meeting you and your students and becoming a part of your classroom.

Sincerely,

Shaelyn Haynes
