Learning 5.4 The student will create and solve single-step and multistep practical
Objective problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of
whole numbers.
Online To cover this SOL, I will do the following to introduce, cover and review to
Activity make sure the student’s master it:

Introducing the SOL: To introduce this SOL I will be talking with the students
and introducing to the order of operations. First, I would create a folder on
Bb labeled “Order of Operations, The first link would be a word document
and when the students open it, it would say how would you solve the
following 35+3x5-22÷(10-8). Under the problem I would state “Take a few
minutes and try to solve. After a few minutes, open the “Order of
Operations handout” The handout (see below) explains the Order of
Operations using this above problem. I will use this handout as the notes
for Order of Operations. The students can refer back to this handout for
guidance on how to solve using the order of operations

Practice: Next to practice Order of operations, we will do some basic

problems on a “Order of Operations practice problems” worksheet that
would be another document in the Bb folder

Simulation: After the students practice a few times and get the hang of it
they can click on the last link, the simulation. The simulation gives one
problem at a time. The object is for students to click on the order of
operation. If you click on the correct one, it will do the mathematics and
then you click on the next. If the wrong order of operation if given it tells
you that it is wrong and why. The main objective is for students to learn
and master the order of operations. I would use this simulation for student
to do online to further explain and “teach” order of operations
Pedagogy

Students can go back and do this as many times as needed for them to
master the SOL.
