Seaman's Knot

cable needle, hold in back, knit 4 sts; then knit 4 sts


from cable needle.
4/1LP (cable 4 over 1 left p) – Slip 4 stitches onto
cable needle, hold in front, purl 1 st; then knit 4 sts
from cable needle.
4/1RP (cable 4 over 1 right p) – Slip 1 stitch onto
cable needle, hold in back, knit 4 sts; then purl 1 st
from cable needle.

Instructions

Middle Section: Using your favorite provisional cast


on and the waste yarn, cast on 40 sts. Knit in
ribbing (Chart A) until section measures 17 inches or
desired length; ending on row 2.
Knit with Crystal Palace Yarns Merino 5 (110 yds/50 gm)
Scarf used 400 yds (180 gm)
First Cable Section: Work rows 1-22 of Chart B for a
total of 7 repeats (approximately 20 inches). Cast
off using the I-Cord Bind Off.
Finished Size: 5 1/2 inches x 58 inches
Second Cable Section: Carefully undo provisional
Gauge: 20 sts/4 inches in stockinette (not critical) cast on and slip live stitches onto needle. Working
from right side, attach yarn and work the same as
Materials First End Section.
• 200 gms Worsted Weight Yarn
• US Size 7 needles Weave in ends. Wash and block scarf. Enjoy!

Cast On I-Cord Bind Off

• Cable Needle
1. Using the Cable Cast On, cast on 3 sts. Slip the 3 sts back to the left hand
• Tapestry Needle needle.
2. Knit 2 stitches, slip 1 st as if to knit, knit 1 stitch, pass slipped stitch over.
Slip the 3 stitches on the right hand needle back to the left hand needle.
Abbreviations 3. Repeat Step 2 until all the stitches have been cast off. Knit the 3
sl – slip as if to purl unless otherwise instructed remaining sts together and pull end of yarn through loop.
4. To prevent the ends from flaring, you may need to occasionally bind off 2
tbl – through back loop stitches instead of one; ie. Knit 2 stitches, slip 1 st as if to knit, knit 2 sts
wyif – with yarn in front together through back loop, pass slipped stitch over. Slip the 3 stitches on the
right hand needle back to the left hand needle.
4/4R (cable 4 over 4, right) – Slip 4 stitches onto
