MAJOR PROJECT 4 REFLECTION

For my Major Project 4, I had the idea of creating a box that would further elaborate/

visually depict my Major Project 2 of Discourses. With this box I chose to try and incorporate a

deeper meaning behind it, in which I showed the outside of the box being how I am within my

Secondary (School) Discourse, where it depicts through some pictures how you would normally

see me act, dress, talk, and more, at school, or specifically, within the classroom. But once you

open up the box, you would be able to see part of me or the true me, within my Primary (Home)

Discourse, when I am around close friends and family. This idea is contrasting from my original

idea of making a collage of how different I can be within my different Discourses on a poster.

The process on how I chose to pick which of my previous Major Projects I would want o

to creatively recreate was to think of which projects did I view as being somewhat the easiest for

me to be able to recreate and understand. I chose to recreate Major Project 2 because of how

when I was thinking of which project to recreate, Major Project 2 was the first and only one that

came to my mind, as well as that it was also the only project that I also had explicit details on

how I would want to carry it out or actually recreate.

When creating this project, the only thing that I found to be a little more difficult within

my process of completing my assignment would be choosing the right pictures that

rightfully/strongly contributed to how I am within my different Discourses/Environments.

However, with this being my smallest and only difficulty, it was also very easy to overcome

them as well. But if I were to have more time to work on this project, I would probably have

chosen to do a mixture of different pictures and drawings that would possibly be a little more

detailed in contributing to how I am within my different Discourses. I would also possibly have

tried making a very small video, that would visually show how exactly I can get loud, or be a

little funny, weird, and/or unusual within my Primary (Home) Discourse, due to how within my

essay I described this as being some of the big contrast of how I act, from that of how I am/act

within my Secondary Discourse(s).

While walking around to see my peers’ projects, I saw many projects that I viewed to be

very creative, nice and thought through. But when it came to seeing the different projects to see

how they were able to allow me to further understand a topic/concept that I previously did not

understand, I was able to find one of my peers’ projects about translingual literacy to be really

helpful in allowing me to clearly and fully understand the concept. It was also helpful to see

some examples of how exactly is it that they were able to incorporate the concepts of translingual

literacy by Canagarajah to themselves, to allow me to have a further understanding of

translingual literacy.
