SELF ESTEEM & BODY ESTEEM

As a teen, does your changes in body affects your self-esteem?

If so, how does it affect you?

Have you heard about the phrase “ I am Ugly ” said by other?

We are going to discuss all about the self-esteem, body esteem or body image

first how the self-esteem and body esteem really affects us?
It affects your mental health and how you behave.
Self esteem is how much you know, like and appreciate your characteristics, skills,
achievements, qualities, decisions etc. Having a lower or higher self esteem really affects our
movements, daily life patterns, decision-making, improvements and interactions with other,
having a low self esteem, is a must avoid or just improve it for the better because it affects your
confidence about themselves affecting almost everything in their lives, while a person with
Higher self esteem, had the opposite, they know themselves very well and because of that they
figured out their own strength and weaknesses to improve, they have a control for their own lives
and decision without worrying of criticism of the others, they have a higher confidence that has a
greater impact for their lives, especially in classroom.
Body esteem or Body image are only based on your thoughts about your looks and body
appearance, including weight, complexion, hair, face and the other features in our body that
comprises the way we looks, having a negative thoughts about your body appearance can cause a
person harm on physical and mental state, body image is a major factor in self esteem
So what are the difference?
Self esteem is about the individuals feelings about their worth as a person while body esteem is
how an individual feels about their body

Why Are Self-Esteem and Body Image Important?

Self-esteem is all about how much people value themselves, the pride they feel in themselves,
and how worthwhile they feel. Self-esteem is important because feeling good about yourself can
affect how you act. A person who has high self-esteem will make friends easily, is more in
control of his or her behavior, and will enjoy life more. Body image is how someone feels about
his or her own physical appearance.
What are the reasons why do we gain low self esteem?
Puberty and Development
First is puberty and development, changes sucks, and so does the puberty, when puberty hits
most of us, we know that we are mostly going to hate it, because of the changes in our body that
are really hard to accept and made us self conscious about “ what are my friends going to think
about “ kind of stuff, because of this, our confidence could shrink and that is a bad factor if we
want to improve our self esteem.

Media Image and Outside Influence

When we tried to compare ourselves to the person we idolize, we intend to made ourselves feel
like the worst person, because of the almost no resemblance to everything from shape of body to
characteristics, when we compare ourselves to the person we adore and idolizes the most,
including celebrities, so we tried to copy them so that we could fit in to the trends and whats
fresh and to atleast make yourself look good to the eyes of the other and yourself

Families and school

It is very bad to have a comparison between very different things, because mostly, this is the
starting point of making ourselves feel bad, when our parents made a compare between ourselves
and someone that you know who is 10 times better that you, you know that there will be a hard
feelings involved and the effect could last for a long time, even for a lifetime and can be a reason
for suicides, rebellion against our parents etc. When a teacher tried to scold you and segue the
comparison between you and the most excellent student in your classroom, you will feel
belittled, and will make your self esteem go down affecting your performance in class and will
be afraid answer or perform in class again.
