THE END OF POVERTY

Poverty is the biggest problem that the world is facing. It is not like cleaning a garden to make it look
cleaner and better. “The End of Poverty” is an eye opener for the people of this world, the start of the
problem that until now doesn’t have a dot to said it’s the end. It’s a must recommended documentary
film to the people in position and for the people who are in low lifestyle because this will surely help them
to somehow get rid of poverty. In any corner of the world there is poverty, USA, Canada, China and Japan
are still facing poverty even they are one of the most powerful countries around the world. Why? It is
because they have all the mean- the wealth, the modernization and of course the globalization.
Globalization takes place and the people in low community cannot accommodate this huge change
because of the lack of resources.

It is said in the documentary that our world is blessed with so much resources that we may use to provide
food, money, shelter and everything that we need in our daily lives but it is also said that it is not
distributed in a way that all people will be accommodated. We are consuming 25% of this world’s
resources and we are providing a rapid pollution out of it. At least 25,000 died because of hunger and
hunger related diseases although we have the resources to not. It’s a total failure, from the rational
economic stand point, that’s a failure.

500 years ago, colonization started, it provides a systematic and a permanent process but latter the
expropriation of land became a huge problem during the 19th century. By this history, colonization is the
start of poverty because the government used their power to step in the land of other people using their
own system. Colonizing, thus have a huge impact to the people of today. One of the examples given jn
the documentary is the tribe in Kenya wherein prople doesn’t get their resources properly because other
country’s system is owning it. It is not new to us that Africa is the poorest country in the world although
they have all the resources that they can used to support their lives and to put their shoe on top but
because of the colonization that happens 500 years ago, their land is still in the hand of land owners.

The documentary film also talked about the system of slavery wherein natives are not considered human
being because they are owned by the Empire. This, until now happens, the discrimination between the
whites and black Americans. Blacks are the poorest while whites are the rich, the blacks are dirty and the
whites are clean, the blacks are slaves and the whited are the master. Discrimination took place in poverty,
it is because the right of black people to enter in good workplace is not given instead they are send to a
low income job, without food and even water to drink. Instead of lifting them up the system put them
even down.

Aside from the discrimination of color there is also gap between the Northern countries to the Southern
countries. People who are in the North are considered the 1st world wherein all the wealth and means are
in there. While the Southern countries are considered as the 3rd world because they are poorest, people
are rich in agriculture but still cannot put a business out of it to provide money. Poverty still exist in
Northern part but still manage to provide enough money to eat three times a day and good shelter but
people in the Southern part cannot. They have the biggest population around the world and they are lack
in resources, their resources cannot accommodate their number. In this very point, we can see how
marginalized the southern part is.
To continue the colonization, Christianity became one of the system, Christianity aims to spread the
teachings of God yet the real reason behind it is the exchange of products between two countries this
resulted in decrease of exports in a country, imports increases because of the demands of people. This
way of Christianity from Spanish era is until now have a part, it is somehow advantageous but it has a big
disadvantage in the local culture and also in the products produced by the country. It is said in the film
that in Southern part, poor people who enter the church for the rich will not be allowed to seat in the
chair but will seat on the ground so they have this other church that the poor will have all the means to
praise and worship their God.

Poverty means you don’t have the capability to eat three times a day nor take a shower and brush your
team or have a good shelter to spend the night with. Aside from that it is also the incapability to provide
education for the children to learn and to study. Since childhood, it is planted to our minds that education
is the key to success yet for other countries it is a huge responsibility that is useless because after you
graduate you will still have a low profit job. This cases happen in Africa and it is so sad to see children who
roams around without a proper dress, hygiene and even sleepers. Aside from that people die without
even seeing a doctor, they brought a tablet in a near store without a provision of the doctor.

The end doesn’t justify the means, even how systematic the system 500 years ago still the system today
is killing billions of people a year because of this phenomenon called poverty. We will never kill this, the
government can’t do anything about it because it is in their hand, they have a choice but they choose to
not, because power what they really want. From all the circumstances given by the documentary, the
poverty doesn’t end it is just started.
