understand ancient Rome from about 700 b.c.
(b.c.e.) to 500 a.d. (c.e.) in terms of its impact on
Western civilization by
a) locating Roman civilizations in time and place and
describing their major geographic features;
b) describing the social and religious structure of
ancient Rome;
c) describing the social structure and cultural
development of the Roman Republic;
d) describing and evaluating the political and
military structure of the Roman Republic under the
rule of Julius Caesar;
e) describing and evaluating the political structure
of the Roman Empire under the rule of Augustus
Caesar;
f) assessing the economic structure of Rome,
Rome’s imperial conquests, and the Pax Romana;
and
g) evaluating the fall of the Western Roman Empire
and the Germanic invasions.

Activity After learning about migration and cultural diffusion,
students will pick a geographical region, country,
state, or city that interests them. The teacher will
create a sign up sheet so that no two students
choose the same area. Students will create a 5
minute presentation using Explain Everything that
explains the causes and effects of migration and
cultural diffusion in their chosen area. They can be
creative by using the many features on the app that

allow for more personalized presentations, such as
creating animated videos or using a voiceover. Each
student will present the information on their region
to the rest of the class.

For test review, the teacher will create 40 multiple
choice questions pertaining to ancient Rome
(people, places, dates, major events, etc.). The
teacher will use Kahoot! to create quiz with these
questions that will be displayed on a white board or
smart board for the class to see.
The students will get into groups of 3 people, log
into Kahoot!, create a group name, and enter the
quiz. Once all groups have entered the quiz, they will
work together to answer the questions and compete
against the other groups. The app shows which
groups got the answers right or wrong after each
question, and they get points both for the correct
answer and for speed.
