The target of the standards EN 2563 / ASTM D 234 to determine the short-beam strength of high-modulus fibre-reinforced composite materials. This standard
mostly is used for reinforced carbon fibre material as part of quality production control for supervision if the interlaminar connection of resin / plastic and carbon
fibre was done properly. Because the specimen is relatively short this is so called short beam specimen (SBS).
The test hast to be performed with a universal testing machine with a force of 5 kN minimum (class 1) and a 3-point-bending tool.
Typically this test will performed at unidirectional specimen of carbon fibre plastic for aircraft industry. The shear strength determined corresponds to the
maximum shear stress in the damage of the neutral fibres of the test specimen. The interlaminar shearing stress is determined parallel to the laminate layers in
order to obtain a qualification via the fibre and matrix connection.
Standards DIN EN 2563 and ASTM D 2344 are similar in execution and experimental design, but differ in test specimen geometry, the test speed and the test tool.
With a GALDABINI testing machine you may
• download the method and extract the ZIP
• copy the complete folder to data folder
• load the method to preferred methods ("Search")
• mount the 3-point flexure device (exact positioning of supports required)
• teach in: start position | type of load cell | overload limit to 5 kN (protection tool)
