READING COMPREHENSION

Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding that English language is


stress timed to support comprehension.

Performance Standard: The learner reads with sufficient accuracy and fluency to
support comprehension.

Learning Competencies/ Objectives:


1. Observe accuracy, appropriate rate, proper expressions and correct
pronunciation in oral communication group task. (EN6F-IVg-3.5, 3.6, 3.11)

3. Recite a verse choir with accuracy, proper expression and correct
pronunciation.

III. Procedure
A. Before the Lesson
1. Drill:
Read the verse.

2. Review:
Read the paragraph, make your own graphic organizer to organize
ideas in it.

The Filipino is a God-loving person. Whether Christian of non-


Christian, he believes in one God. He patterns his life in the way God
wants for him. He love his neighbors because he loves God. He prays
not only for himself but also for his family, his fellowmen, and his
country.

3. Motivation:
How does a baby cry?
How does a youth cry?
What is the difference of the cry of the youth to that of the cry of a
baby?

4. Presentation:
THE CRY OF YOUTH

Medium: The cry of youth is no longer the cry of the crib.


Dark: The cry of youth is the summons to act, to build, to labor,
Light: to dream if you will, but it is cry that will be heard.

Dark: the gold of your hills, the might of your rivers,

bequeath to me.

B. During the Lesson


1. Discussion:
The teacher reads the poem first, the pupils try to imitate the correct
way of reading the it cast for a verse choir. Have the pupils read the
poem correctly.

Discuss further how to read a poem. The teacher models an


interpretation of the poem for the pupils. Have them glance at the poem
every now and then, but should maintain eye contact with the audience.

Discuss further, refer to the generalization.

2. Guided Practice:
Have the pupils read the poem with correct diction, pronunciation and
with proper interpretation.

3. Independent Practice:
The teacher forms two teams. Have each team perform and read the
same poem correctly observing accuracy, appropriate rate, proper
expression and correct pronunciation.

C. After the Lesson


1. Generalization:
How do we read a poem cast for a verse choir?
a. Pronunciation, phrasing, blending and intonation should be as
polished as possible.
b. There must be a variety of expression, tempo, volume, etc.
c. The different voice groups in the choir should know their respective
cues… where to begin and end.
d. Gestures, kept down to minimum, should be meaningful and well-
executed.
e. Music and sound effects may be used to enhance the presentation.
f. A conductor should lead the choir. (The conductor may be a pupil
or the teacher her/himself.)

2. Evaluation:
Oral Evaluation: Given the criteria, have the group read the same
poem given correctly. Discuss thoroughly the criteria to be given to the
pupils.
