DIVISION MEET

BILLIARDS GROUND RULES


I. PARTICIPANTS

The Participants for the event shall be students in the secondary private and public
schools who are qualified athletes to play for Division Meet.

II. REGISTRATION OF PLAYERS

A. Players shall register and have undergone the screening before the event proper with
proper documentation as to confirm the player’s identity to the Screening Accreditation
Committee.

III. PLAYER REQUIREMENTS

A Each player shall be required to bring at least one of the following equipment during the
event. Lending or borrowing of such equipment is strictly prohibited;

1. Break Cue
2. Cue Stick
3. Tapper

B. Each player is allowed to bring the following optional equipment. Lending of equipment
during a match is prohibited;

1. Jump Cue
2. Chalk/Gloves

C. Player Dress Code

Boys
- Delegation Uniform/Collared Polo(in the absence of delegation uniform)
- Pants
- Black Shoes with rubber soles/delegation shoes
Girls
- Delegation Uniform /Close Collared Polo(in the absence of delegation
uniform)
- Pants
- Black Shoes with rubber soles/delegation shoes

IV. MODE OF COMPETITION

Disciplines that will be played during the Unit Meet would be 9- and 8-ball singles.
Single elimination or knock-out system is being applied.The match will be race to three (3)
for the elimination round, race to five (5) for the semi-final round, and race to seven (7) for the
championship round. The winner of Group A will play against the winner of Group B to
determine the gold and silver medalists respectively (Championship round). While the 1st
Runner-Up of Group A will play against 1st Runner-Up of Group B to determine the bronze
medalist in a race to THREE(3) match.If the winners of 8 and 9 - ball came from different
DIVISION the players will play the 9balls race to three to determine who will be the winning
coach.Just incase there is only one champion in 8- and 9- ball, the second player will be
selected base on the medal standing. The Technical Committee deserves the right to increase
the number of race depending on the number of participating divisions.Furthermore, the
following are the mode of play to wit;

a. The players will be grouped into two (2) – Group A and Group B;
b. A single elimination or knock-out system shall be applied in the competition.

V. RULES OF THE GAME

A. The general ruling is anchored on the rulings set by the World Pool Association.

B. The rulings set by the Technical Committee will be followed, to wit:

General Rules:
1. A player must bring the necessary equipment including snacks and beverages during
the match. Extra equipment and snacks may be allowed i.e. tapper et al. during the
break.
2. If the cue tip of the players’ cue stick is accidentally broken, the player may borrow
from the venue or from his/her team mates. He is not allowed to borrow from the
opponent’s cue stick.
3. A player is prohibited from touching the cue tip on the cloth while pointing the
object ball for aiming, if done so, a foul will be called.
4. If a player unscrewed his/her cue stick while the opponent takes turn in running the
table, the player who does the act mentioned manifested concession of the match.
Therefore,the player who unscrewed the cue stick automatically LOSES THE
MATCH.
5. Communication between the coach and the player is strictly prohibited during the
match. Coaches shall keep distance from the playing player.
6. Each player is allowed to take one (1) time-out of FIVE MINUTES (5 minutes)in
every match in either 8-ball or 9-ball competition. It is only granted when it is the
player’s inning or turnto break.
7. COACHES and AUDIENCES are not allowed to interfere with the referees’
decision.
8. If a player feels that the referee has made an error in judgment, he may ask the
referee to reconsider his call or lack of call. HOWEVER, THE REFEREES’
DECISION ON JUDGEMENT CALLS IS FINAL.

9. No bringing of gadgets such as cellphone, headphone and etc. during the match.
10. A player is given 30-second shot clock and a 30-second extension per inning.
11. For slow play, 1st offense warning, 2nd offense loss of the rack, 3rd offense loss of
the match.
12. Winners’ break in both 8-ball and 9-ball events.
13. Protests shall be entertain 30 minutes after the game

8-Ball rules:
14. At least four (4) object balls must be driven or contacted to any rails.
15. A player must make a “CALL SHOT” on the first object ball when selecting the
intended group and when to pocket the 8-ball. If the called object ball is not
pocketed the table remains open. However, if a player fails to make a “CALL
SHOT” and the 8-ball is successfully pocketed, the player LOSES THE RACK,
otherwise the game continues.
16. “Safety shot” shall not be applied in the 8-ball event.

9-Ball rules:
17. After the break, four (4) object balls are required to pass the kitchen. Pocketed balls
during the break are counted and considered for this requirement. If the requirement
not met, the breaker loses its turn and the incoming player has the options to:
a. Re-rack, or
b. accept the balls in position.
18. “PUSH OUT”shot may only be called right after the break. A player must make his
intention known to the referee, otherwise appropriate penalty be called.
