1) Ali was on his way back to his home after finishing his shift at 11.oopm. He was driving his
car when he saw a black figure in the middle of the road. He was so frighten as he thought
that the thing might be an evil spirit and he accelerated his car and knockdown the thing.
The next day, he read in the newspaper that the police was looking for him as he had run
down a Bangladeshi worker a night before. Ali was very anxious and asked you on the
possible offence and punishment that he may be charged under Islamic criminal law. Advise
him as well on whether he could be liable for the offence.

2) Explain the concept of diyat under Islamic criminal law.
