The “Hypermobility” series exclusively
uses disabled studio models who are
diagnosed with connective tissue
disorders (such as Marfans or EDS),
capturing moments where joints
hyperextend or dislocate and the body
moves into impossible configurations.
These have been widely exhibited as
part of advocacy and education for this
special population, and my disabled
models and collaborators play a
significant role in the design of these
poses.

This section of the “Medical
Trials of the Saints” series
moves from using classical oil
painting to borrowing the
aesthetics of Victorian-era
women’s collage, using the
media to create psychological
self-portraits of the artist as
child-saints, thus exploring the
roots of trauma, gender, and
identity.

side-by-side with the paintings.
