Social media is one of the most important things that my generation can be a part of in

my own opinion. I’ve been involved in social media since I was at least 9 years old. Yes, that’s

right 9 years old. I created my MySpace in my grandmas back room on her desktop it was Chris

brown themed and all. And then myspace transformed into Facebook, and Facebook into twitter

then twitter to Instagram. Now i am a happy account holder for three out of the four mentioned.

And snapchat i also have a snapchat. Though I think that social media is important for young

adults i do understand how it can be detrimental to some young minds. Young girls in particular,

even though this does not extend to me personally I am sure it is hard seeing all the Kylie

Jenners and the Blac Chynas of the world with their perfect bodies, and all the expensive things

they possess its common to maybe see yourself in a different light. And that's if you even look at

those people. Social media can also be used for a bullying tool. at least it was when i was in

high school. There were some twitter pages that people would make called “confession pages”

and what would happen is other students would direct message the confession page secrets

about their friends and the page would anonymously post them telling everyone, everyone's

secrets. Needless to say, it was messy.

Yes, social media can be a bad environment at times but it can also be life changing.

Growing up I have seen countless people get exposure and for lack of a better word famous

from social media. If you are able to make and continue to make quality content weather it's

funny videos or take good quality pictures for Instagram or be able to create witty tweets for

Twitter then you have the potential to obtain a decent sized following and depending on what

you want to do with your life further your future. Social media is also how young adults connect.

It's where you find people who have the same interest as you but may not live in your town or

city or even state. I'm telling you I have seen a comment on an Instagram post turn into a

lifelong friendship, a liked tweet turns into a marriage. All because of social media.
