PHRASAL VERBS: LOOK

A phrasal verb is a combination of one verb and one or more prepositions.


Phrasal verbs have a different meaning to that of the main verb used.

In this session we are going to look at different Phrasal verbs with ‘LOOK’.

TO LOOK AFTER SMBDY/SMTH To be responsible for or take care of smbdy or smth

TO LOOK BACK ON To think about something in the past

TO LOOK DOWN ON SMBDY To think that you are better than somebody

TO LOOK FOR SOMETHING To hope for something; to expect something

TO LOOK FORWARD TO To be thinking with pleasure about something that is going


to happen (because you expect to enjoy it)

TO LOOK INTO SOMETHING To examine something

TO LOOK OUT Used to warn somebody to be careful when there’s a danger

TO LOOK OUT FOR SMBDY To take care of smbdy and make sure nothing bad happens

TO LOOK THROUGH SMBDY To ignore somebody by pretending not to see them

TO LOOK THROUGH SMTH To examine or read something quickly

TO LOOK UP To become better, to improve

TO LOOK SOMEBODY UP To visit or make contact with somebody, especially when you
haven’t seen them for a long time

TO LOOK SOMETHING UP To look for information in a dictionary or a reference book

TO LOOK UP TO SOMEBODY To admire / respect someone
