QUESTION 1

Figure 1 shows the circuit network consists of four resistors and two voltage sources.

a) Using the mesh analysis or loop current method, determine the current flow in R 2 . State
and label the direction of current flow and voltages in the circuit.

i) Line current (IL) for each line (in polar form).

a) Three 500 V generators from a wye-connected source that is connected to a balanced


wye-connected load of Z= 0.848 +jO.529 kQ per phase as show in Figure 4. Determine:

b) A basic transformer is an electrical device constructed of two coils of wire (windings)


magnetically coupled to each other so that there is a mutual inductance for the transfer of
power from one winding to the other.

i) What is the meaning of mutual inductance?

ii) When two coils having inductances of 8 pH and 3.5 pH respectively were wound
uniformly onto a non-magnetic core, it was found that their mutual inductance was
2.5 iH. Calculate the coupling coefficient that exists between these two coils.

iii) Calculate the voltage across the secondary winding if the efficiency of the
transformer is 86% for the transformer in Figure 5.
