Question No. 1

A below given diagram is representing the Differential Manchester encoding scheme. You are required to
carefully analyze the diagram and then write the binary pattern represented by the diagram:

Hint: First bit is 0 and its voltage level is negative to positive.

Give your answer in the following table:

Solution:
0 1 1 0 0 1 0 0 1

Question No.2

Determine the following from the diagram given below:

 Period in Milliseconds
 Frequency
 Phase Shift
Give your answer in the following table:
Solution:

Frequency Period Phase

9 Hz =1/9 second 0˚
=0.11 seconds
= 110ms

Question No. 3

Suppose power P of a signal is increased 30 times after passing through an amplifier. By writing all necessary
formulas and calculation steps, you are required to calculate amplification (power gain) in proper unit.
Solution:
Suppose amplified signal is denoted as: P2 whereas P is the power of original signal.
This means that P2 =30P
Formula for calculating power gain is: 10 log10 P2/P
By putting the values of P2 in the formula, we get
=10 log10 30P/P =10 log10 30
Value of log10 of 30 is around 1.4
= 10(1.4) = 14 dB
