EXPLORATORY

Description: actions are done in order to discover something or to learn the truth about
something.

Indications: Exploratory surgery is a diagnostic method used by doctors when trying to

find a diagnosis for an ailment. It can be performed in both humans and animals, but it
is far more common in animals. It is used most commonly to diagnose or locate cancer
in humans.

The use of new technologies such as MRIs has made exploratory surgeries less frequent.

LAPAROTOMY

Description: is a surgical procedure involving a large incision through the abdominal

wall to gain access into the abdominal cavity. It is also known as a celiotomy.

Indications: used for people with severe abdominal pain to find the cause of the
problem and in many cases to treat it. You will have a general anaesthetic and the
surgeon will make an incision (cut) to open the abdomen (stomach area).

SALPINGECTOMY

Description: is the surgical removal of one (unilateral) or both (bilateral) fallopian tubes.
Fallopian tubes allow eggs to travel from the ovaries to the uterus.

Indication: indications for a salpingectomy include infected tubes (as in a hydrosalpinx)

or as part of the surgical procedure for tubal cancer. A bilateral salpingectomy will lead
to sterility, and was used for that purpose; however, less invasive procedures have
become available as tubal occlusion procedures

BILATERAL TUBAL LIGATION

Description: is a surgical procedure that involves blocking the fallopian tubes to prevent
the ovum (egg) from being fertilized. It can be done by cutting, burning or removing
sections of the fallopian tubes or by placing clips on each tube.

Indication:

-For women wanting a permanent method of contraception.

-For women in whom a future pregnancy could pose a significant risk of medical harm.
