HECTOR OSEGUERA CONDEMNS THE JERSEY CITY ATTACK, CALLS FOR LEADERSHIP ON GUN
REFORM, HOUSING, AND VIGILANCE AGAINST ANTI-SEMITISM

Union City, NJ — Hector Oseguera, Congressional Candidate for New Jersey District 08 stands with the
families of victims who tragically lost their lives in the attack on Jersey City this week and demands
Congressional action on gun violence.

“This week’s attack has left our community in shock, disbelief, and mourning. Jersey City is one of the
most diverse places in the country and hate has no place in our community. As a lifelong resident of this
district and county, my heart breaks for the families who lost loved ones,” said Oseguera. “In addition to
commending our law enforcement officers, I also commend the Greenville residents whose neighborhood
was paralyzed for hours during the attack but came together to ensure our children remained safe, that
neighbors stayed informed, and who, despite ongoing scrutiny and coverage from national media, still
remain steadfast in affirming that Jersey City is a welcoming place for everyone.”

Oseguera’s campaign bitterly condemns this anti-semitic hate crime and the confluence of multiple
systemic issues that fuel this and other acts of violence. He rejects the "senseless act" rhetoric that
prevails after acts of domestic terrorism and mass shootings. These events have become common
occurrences because we have allowed conditions which germinate violence to flourish.

Diversity takes work. It is complicated and messy. It is not just different cultures living in the same
geographic area. Our officials need to lead by building bridges in changing communities to guarantee the
promise of an equitable future for all.

Oseguera calls for leadership that is willing to enact strong gun reform and equitable housing policies that
promote community resiliency and inclusion over the rapid development and displacement that silos and
segregates communities, rather than bring them together.
