• Human Rights Day is celebrated on 10 December each year to
commemorate the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), which
was adopted and proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 1948.

inalienable rights of humanity are the foundation of justice, freedom and
peace in the world.
• The theme of the United Nations for Human Rights Day this year is: “Young
people defend human rights”.

amplify their voices against racism, hatred, bullying, discrimination and the
struggle for climate justice, among other issues.
• Since its establishment of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has
been committed to promoting a culture of human rights.
• The NHRC, like most human rights institutions in the world, is a
recommendation body under the law on the protection of human rights
approved by Parliament.

• An important initiative of the Commission this year was the proposal by the
NHRC to establish a task force to prepare a national action plan on human
rights (NAPHR) comprising representatives of various ministries, NGOs,
civil society and NHRC among the other interested parties.
• This plan will help to mark key human rights issues for the government (s),
which should be addressed with a targeted approach to improve the human
rights situation in the country through a supported mechanism.
• Human rights day came into existence on 28th September 1993. After that,
government of India constitute the national human rights commission on 12
October 1993.
• Human rights are the right to live, freedom, equality and respect for any
human being. The Indian Constitution not only guarantees this right, but the
court punishes those who break it. In short, human rights are the natural
rights of every person.
