The following text introduces the standard indoor units and their main
functions. For each unit there exist several types with different properties.
Power Filter Unit Filters the external power and distributes the
(PFU) internal power to the plug-in units via the
backplane.
The interconnection between the outdoor part (Radio Units and antennas)
and the indoor part is one coaxial cable per MMU carrying full duplex traffic,
DC supply voltage, as well as operation and maintenance data.
The RAU and the antenna are easily installed on a wide range of support
structures. The RAU is fitted directly to the antenna as standard, integrated
installation. The RAU and the antenna can also be fitted separately and
connected by a flexible waveguide. In all cases, the antenna is easily aligned
and the RAU can be disconnected and replaced without affecting the antenna
alignment.

5 Basic Node
5.1 Configurations
5.1.1 AMM 2p
5.1.2 AMM 6p
Protected MMU and LTU 155 must be placed together in slots, starting at
even numbers.
The half-height slots are reserved for PFU1. One PFU1 is mandatory, but an
extra PFU1 can be mounted providing redundant power feeding.
Protected MMU and LTU 155 must be placed together, starting at even
numbers.
All traffic interfaces are multiplexed or de-multiplexed to E1s, which are cross-
connected by the Basic Node.
The following table summarizes how the MINI-LINK TN can support different
types of protection strategies.
Protection types

The Basic Node has an architecture with separate busses for traffic and
control signals. This separation means that in most cases the traffic will
continue (but without redundancy) when there is failure in the control system.
The free running frequency of 2048 Kkbit/s is ± 50 ppm taken 10 years aging
into consideration.
Maximum output jitter for E1 complies with G.742-88, chapter 6.2 for intrinsic
jitter and with G.742-88, chapter 6.1 figure 1 for jitter attenuation.
The switching time for the MSP mechanisms is less than 50 ms loss of traffic
due to signal failure or degradation.
The E1 connector on NPU2 and the three E1 connectors on LTU 12x2 are
male SOFIX 24 pin connector each with 4xE1, 120 Ω balanced, short haul (6
dB) terminations.
There is also one male SOFIX connector on the SMU2 that terminates the
one E3 interface and the two E2 interfaces.
The optical interface is short haul S-1.1 1310 nm, ~15 km according to G.957
table 2 using two SC/PC single mode connectors.
The LAN port is compatible with IEEE802.3 with a 10/100 BASE-T line
interface located in the front of the NPU2 at the AMM 2p. The Ethernet
connection is a shielded 8 pin RJ45 modular jack.
The yellow LED on the NPU shows “carrier sense” and data activity.
There are 3 input signals and 3 output signals on a male 24 pin SOFIX
connector only on the NPU 8x2 The input is used to import alarms from
external sources, the output is used to export alarms from the Basic Node to
external alarm systems.
This connector can also be cabled to an interface front panel, and is then
reached through a 15-pin D-sub.
The input signals are opto-coupled, and the output signals are performed with
relay settings.

The input signals have a reference that is floating with respect to each other
and station ground. All signals are positive to the reference and shall read
logical “0” when the Voltage < 1.0 V DC and
logical “1” when the Voltage > 2.4 V DC.
An input Voltage less than 15V DC will not damage the equipment.
Input voltage difference between the signal reference and the station ground
must be less than 72 V.
5.5.4.2 Output
The output signals consist of three pins: NCL (Normally Closed), RTN
(Return) and NOP (Normally Open).
The relays used to switch the settings have the contact rating:
• 100 V DC, 1 A
• 125 V AC, 1 A
The outputs are reset to default temporarily upon cold restart, but are not
affected by a warm restart of the NPU.
The 10 BASE-T line interface is located in the front of the NPU 8x2. The
Ethernet connection is a shielded 8 pin RJ45 modular jack (DTE).
The yellow LED on the NPU shows “carrier sense” and data activity.
A 5-pin USB2 connector is located at the front of the NPU2 board. The bitrate
is 12 Mbit/s and the interface is USB client.
Three LEDs are located at the front of the plug-in units: A Green LED,
indicating that the unit is correctly powered, a Red LED, indicating a fault and
a Yellow LED, indicating that the unit is disabled in order to get a controlled
replacement. The Yellow LED does not apply to the fan unit.

Loops can be used to verify that the transmission system is working properly
or they can be used to locate a faulty unit or interface.
The following loops are available on all plug-in units that carry traffic (NPU,
LTU, and MMU).
Rx Loop This loop is similar to the Connection Loop but the loop is
done in the plug-in unit close to the TDM bus, where a
group of E1s in the traffic connection is looped back to its
origin
The following loops are available on plug-in units with an E1 or STM-1 line
interface (NPU and LTU).
Line Loop Loops an incoming line signal back to its origin. The loop
is done in the plug-in unit, close to the line interface. An
AIS is sent to the TDM bus.
Local Loop Loops a line signal received from the TDM bus back to its
origin. The loop is done in the plug-in unit. An AIS is sent
to the line interface.

6 Radio Terminal
6.1 Configurations
In hot standby mode, one transmitter is working while the other one is
standby, that is not transmitting but ready to transmit if the active transmitter
malfunctions. Both RAUs are receiving signals and the best signal is used
according to an alarm priority list.
In working standby mode, both radio paths are active in parallel using
different frequencies.
RAUs are produced for frequency bands, subranges and channel plans
according to tables below.
Frequencies can be selected in 0.25 MHz steps, except for Radio Terminals
with RAU1 8 or RAU1 N 8 that have an extended frequency resolution of
0.025 MHz steps for index 11-18.

Moreover the output power level can be stepwise selected, from O&M, on site
(this function is not available on Radio Terminals with RAU1 26 with standard
output power).
Optionally, it is possible to equip the Radio Terminal with RAU1 with fixed
and/or mechanically adjustable attenuators to extend the electronically
adjustable range.
6.2.5 Loops
The following loops on the near-end Radio Terminal are supported in order to
find out if the RAU or MMU is faulty.
In addition the Rx Loop can be used to verify the communication over the
radio path.

6.2.6.1 Configurations
All configurations giving radio section protection are based on the same RAUs
and MMUs as used for unprotected terminals.
Hot-standby operation:
Working-standby operation:
In the event of automatic mode operation and hardware failure, the receiver
with the lowest alarm criticality is selected (hardware protection). The order of
criticality is defined as follows:

7 Power Supply
AMM 2p has the DC input located on the NPU2
In AMM 20p there is one DC input per PFU1, and FAU1 needs a separate
power input.
The AMM 20p and AMM 6p provides DC supply interfaces through the front of
the PFU units. The AMM 2p has the DC interface on the NPU2.

7.3 Input under voltage protection (all plug-in units) and supervision
The –48 V input voltage is supervised, and if the potential falls below –40.5 V,
an alarm is generated and the current is turned off. The under voltage
protection function releases if the input voltage comes back.

The soft start and electronic fuse limits inrush currents at start up, or currents
in case of short circuit. This protection feature is activated faster than the blow
fuse, which is the final security function. Thus, the blow fuse is only used if the
electronic fuse is faulty.
For 24 V power feeding the blow fuse will also protect against short circuits
from +24V to chassis.
The electronic fuse is latching, and must be manually reset by switching the
power off and on.
8 Cooling
A Fan Unit provides forced cooling of the magazines and circuit boards. The
units continue operation with one failed fan. If the cooling then is insufficient,
the thermal management function will prevent the damage of the Basic Node.
When several magazines are mounted in rack, each magazine will have
independent cooling.
AMM 2p The Fan Unit, FAU4, with three fans is located within the
magazine. Cooling airs enters from the right and exits at the left
of the magazine.
The Fan Unit may be omitted when the total dissipated power
within the magazine is less than 45 W and a 1U space is
located above the magazine.
AMM 6p A Fan Unit, FAU2, with two fans must be located within the
magazine. Cooling air enters from the front and exits at the rear
of the magazine.
AMM 20p Cooling air enters from the front, below the magazines. The air
flows out at the top of the magazine. A Fan Unit, FAU1, with
three fans can be located above the magazine.
The fan units have one green LED and one red LED. The green is lit when
power is on. The red is lit when a fan failure is detected.
The two FAU1 alarm interfaces to PFU1 are 8 pin SOFIX connectors.

24 V power connections for the AMM 6p and AMM 20p requires an external
PS.U
For the 24V there are three independent power connections to the AMM,
giving battery + (+24 V), battery – (0V) and station ground.
The shield of the radio cable shall be connected to the modem unit that in turn
has galvanic contact with AMM.
The chassis of the unit is connected to the mast which in turn is grounded.
The RAU shall be provided with a separate grounding screw. The shield of
the coaxial cable is connected to the RAU chassis.
