THESIS SYNOPSIS

INTRODUCTION
The Government of India has approved a project for establishment of new AIIMS in

Madurai, Tamil Nadu at a total cost of 1,264 Crore (One thousand Two Hundred and

Sixty Four Crore only) under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY). The

construction component of project to be executed by CPSU as Executing Agency will be

tentatively Rs 892 Crores Only.

AIM
Establishment of new AIIMS involves creation of Hospital, Trauma Center

facilities, Medical College, residential complexes and allied facilities / services,

broadly on the pattern of AIIMS, NewDelhi and other six new AIIMS

OBJECTIVE
To establish the new AIIMS as Institution of National Importance for

providing quality medical education, and also to provide tertiary health care

facilities to the people of Madurai and nearby region.

SITE INFERENCE
LOCATION : K. Pdupatti village, Thoppur, Madurai, Tamilnadu.

SITE AREA : 201.75 acres.


WHY MADURAI IS CHOOSEN FOR AIIMS?
All India institute of Medical Science bill was introduced in Lok Sabha in
2012 by which AIIMS was opened to many parts of the country apart from New
Delhi. In South, Madurai is renowned for best medicine treatment compared to
cities like Chennai and Coimbatore. Madurai is a tier 2 city connected to other
parts by Air port which would enable people to reach the city easily. And the
topographical location of Madurai suits well to connect to many villages in
southern districts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala State. The city is well connected with
railway and road link over a large area across the region. This obviously makes
Madurai as a better choice for setting up AIIMS that would give best treatment to
all levels of people.

REQUIREMENTS
PROJECT BRIEF
The medical college proposed is to provide MEDICAL EDUCATION, initially
with annual intake of 100 students(According to MCI standard)
The Medical Council of India was established in 1934 under the Indian
Medical Council Act, 1933, now repealed, with the main function of establishing
uniform standards of higher qualifications in medicine and recognition of
medical qualifications in India and abroad.
“Every medical college and Medical Institution for 100 M.B.B.S. admissions
annually shall have the following departments, namely:-

Every Medical college and Medical institution and its associated teaching
hospitals for 100 MBBS admissions annually shall have the accommodation for
teaching and technical staff and equipment for each department.

OUT PATIENT DEPARTMENT


There shall be a minimum OPD attendance of 4 patients (old & new) per day
per student intake of the subjects of Undergraduate curriculum at the time of
Letter of Permission.
This should be increased in such a manner that at the end of fourth year it
comes to 8 patients (old & new) per day per student intake
Indoor beds occupancy-Average occupancy of indoor beds shall be a
minimum of 80% per annum.

IN-PATIENTS NURSING UNITS


Nursing care should fall under the following categories:
 General Wards
 Ward for Specialities
 Intensive Care Unit
The following accommodation shall be available with each ward, namely
 Accommodation in a General Ward shall not exceed 30 patients and
distance between the two beds shall not be less than 1.5m.
 Nurses Duty Room/Nursing Station.
 Ward should be constructed in such a way that the Nurse from her
Nursing
 Station is able to have an overview of all the patients in the wards.
 Examination and Treatment room.
 Ward Pantry.
 Store room for linen and other equipment.
 Resident Doctors and students Duty Room.
 Clinical Demonstration Room.

AIIMS Madurai is situated at the centre of Tamilnadu and transforming
Madurai as a Medical Hub.
This medical institution creates platform for young doctors and nurses
whose lifetime dreams can be achieved.

Tamilnadu and Kerala.
