“Value of Equality”

Every concerned party seeks to see and be part of a civilized and orderly society
in every nation or state there is. This is one major matter that affects the productivity of
any individual and would soon forth be reflected to any functionality of things of their
product. With a world that is packed with never ending confusion and disorder in relation
to social, political, and economic aspects, different states and organization works
together in aiming to create fixed and reliable criteria in any concept available in helping
this world to achieve its better version possible. While that is what they envision, one
considerable factor is the diversification of culture and practices that divides the parties
in clarifying the concepts that supposedly benefit every nation or state. This factor then
influences the main concept that has yet to be clearly discussed and confuses many,
that is ‘equality’. A lot of notions of equality or egalitarianism have been discussed and
debated, no one knows since when, for years. People have raised issues and concerns
as to how, what kind of, why, and to whom shall the concept of equality apply, as
different parties failed to reflect and contemplate how is it to be understood because,
unfortunately, reality has failed to meet their expectation and set of standard for equality.
It should, however, be instilled in the minds of all that how each individual sees equality
really differs and matters depending on the circumstance they have been involved and
they were placed into.
People, most likely than not, sees equality as directly related to attaining justice
in all aspects of life. If there is equality, justice is served. Equality is the key to a civilized
and orderly society as it serves as a basis of judgment when wanting to claim justice at
all times. Now, a question arises as to how does equality play its major role in society. Is
it that significant that everyone seeks to feel and have it? We are all given the freedom
to act and voice out what we want yet we tend to abuse it to the point that we may have
or have not noticed already stepping on another being’s way, becoming a hindrance to
their life’s journey of attaining equality. We must not forget on the fact that, for it to be
properly observed and practiced, every law and regulation that covers equality must
accord with the laws and teachings of God. Society must ensure the general welfare of
their people and always aim for the common good; hence, avoiding biases and the like
is a must. An organization or government cannot establish specific criteria and
conditions, to be applied around the world, and enforce it strictly without realizing that
the presence of diversity will gradually create misunderstanding and unjust and poor
judgment anywhere and anytime.
In every society, it is already given that there is that presence of equality,
however, it cannot be offered on all aspects or parties of it. The Philippines, even if
known as a democratic state, for so many years is still not an exemption to this
circumstance. With much effort made by the members of government, specifically those
who actively participates for the common good of Filipinos and not for personal and
political purposes, equality is made possible. Doors of opportunity were opened after
good leaders or members took their seat to govern the nation and the benefits received
may have been direct or indirect. However, due to different areas of expertise and
conflict of interests among citizens and a few member of authority, not all can feel and
see that they were treated equally because of arguments, may it be reasonable or not.
For an instance, LGBT community asks for certain privileges that sees greater
advantage towards them. A few may have agreed to it but many still believes for
equality to be there and just to be served; they must learn that boundaries were set
beforehand and asking for too much – that being approved, if ever – notwithstanding
with its adverse effect to another party, is already a negligence on the part of the
government of the Philippines. Then there is also discrimination and with regards the
opportunities and services provided in between the group that is well-off themselves
and the needful and poverty-stricken group.
A lot of people ask for justice and equal treatment at all times possible, yet, a few
opposes and dominates to receive more and more without caring if they have even
dragged their fellow men down. In spite of what has been previously said, people view
just service and equality depending on how they were educated and have understood
things or to the situations they have been through and so, this will surely have an impact
on how people deal and response with the reality that is being presented to them. What
people may have not noticed is the difference between equality and equity. There are
factors that the full attainment of equality is impossible. We should all know that not all
can have and is deserving of all things made available to another. What most nations
practice is equity, where one is given what he or she deserves and is not made
available to another because of a valid fact that explains why something is the way it is
now. Equality is difficult to completely have especially in the Philippines because of the
people’s uniqueness and neediness – that it is the cause as to why opportunities also
differ from one to another. It cannot be avoided that there will be times that a few will fall
as many rises above, many attains justice as few will not, and many will advance as
some will be left behind. Thus, the state of equality in the Philippines is never stable and
its justice system shall be served in a way only if they are served, and in the society’s
situation, resolving conflict in a just way cannot happen at all times.
As the idea of egalitarianism varies among nations or states, it will always serve
its purpose and will always be an important principle that contributes in creating a better
version of not just one or more state or nation, but of all there is around the world. The
presence of equality is significant in making sound judgments and providing a quality of
services deserved by any living creatures given circumstances that are not of the same
kind. It is present not for just one individual or for specific groups but is served and
given for everyone, for everything here on Earth. We should be reminded that
everything that we aim to have can be possible and attainable, as it starts within us, to
us human beings, gifted with something greater above all other creations of God.
Therefore, we must give importance to every individual on Earth regardless of what they
are and where they come from; these human beings are capable of creating another
which will soon be the leaders and will be part in this world we are in. All beings must be
served with justice and equally be given the rights and privilege worthy to them.
Everybody else deserves to have what another has – with a given reason. We must
keep in our mind that despite diversification, all things can be in unity as long as we
start working hard in creating a civilized and orderly society, this can be through
constant practice of equal and just service and law. Whatever will be done today shall
be followed by another generation. Whatever practice is being done today shall be
passed unto another. This cycle shall continue, thus, we in the present must set good
definition and understanding of the principle of equality so as justice.
