AAIR Approach of CASE ANALYSIS

Awareness – Analysis – Implementation – Reflection (AAIR)

AWARENESS
1. Define the managerial problem:
- Who are the protagonists?
- What are their objectives (implicit and explicit)?
I - What are the problems which the protagonists have to resolve?
2. Identify the key decisions:
- What are the immediate and longer terms decisions that need to be made?
3. Summarize the information:
- What are the key relevant facts contained within the case that support the problems?

ANALYSIS
4. Analyze the information:
- What evidence exists to help you make decision? Is the evidence reliable and unbiased? Can
you improve it?
- Conduct a SWOT analysis. What opportunities and risks do protagonists face?
- What issues are revealed by your analysis? Prioritize. Further analysis required?
5. Formulate the solutions:
- What are your solutions?
II - How are they relevant to the decision at hand?
6. Evaluate the solutions:
- What are your decision criteria to judge the solutions?
- What are the strengths (pros) and weaknesses (cons) of your solutions in view of these
criteria?
- Which alternative or combination thereof do you recommend and why?

IMPLEMENTATION
7. Make recommendations for implementation:
- What is your plan of action (what will be done, who will do it, why, when, where)
- What are the pros and cons of your action plan?
III - What is the contingency plan should the original plan fail?
8. Make suggestions to monitor and control the chosen course of action.
- What results do you expect and why?
- How will results be measured?
- How will results be monitored?

REFLECTION
9. Perform a debrief session in class to examine your decision making process:
- What did you do right/ wrong?
- What could you have done differently/better?
- What can you learn from this case/ experience?
- How does the situation link with the key terms presented at the course?
IV
- How does the situation/ the lessons learned relate to your whole “live” business experience?
10. Write a report on results.
- Write the report on the project
- Make a list of your questions and pursue answers.
