Types of activities during GDDP
During Green Development and Demonstration Program grants may be awarded to the following types of
activities:

• Applied research
• Development

• Demonstration
• Network

A project can contain several types of activities.

The different types of activity are described in the subsequent slides and is followed by a specific
example. Finally, a list appears subsidy percentages.

GDDP 29/08/2016 2
Activity Type - Applied research
By applied research are activities designed to obtain new knowledge and skills that create the basis for
completion of development and demonstration activities.

The application must include a research hypothesis that describes the applied research idea / assumption in
relation to generate knowledge for future development and demonstrationsmål. It also describes how research
hypothesis will be examined, including the methods and tests that are part of research to test the hypothesis.

Schedule E in the application documents must completed if the project includes applied research.

Deliveries: There is a requirement that results be reported / disseminated. There is a broad framework for how
straight from a publication in a national or international journal for an explanation or note that is published on a
website (see list of research supplies in GDDP instructions).

Activity Type - Applied research
Example - New warning system to yellow rust in organic wheat and triticale

Background Organic cultivation of wheat and triticale has become uncertain due. Yellow rust disease. Organic farmers in
2009 experienced a yield loss of up to 90-100% of winter triticale. In 2012 there were again problems with stripe rust, which
here also spread to winter wheat, spring wheat and spring triticale. There was thus an urgent need for new warning systems
to reduce the risk of devastating attacks and increase of cultivation in organic fields.

Research activities The project involves the attempt to clarify the influence of
the environment on the interaction between host and pathogen, and
mechanisms of resistance in crops.

Purpose : Increase of cultivation in both organic and conventional crop

production using. The development of a new warning system. The
development requires research.

participants : Aarhus University and Seges P / S.

GDDP 29/08/2016 4
Type of activity - Development

In development are activities that develop new or improved products, processes or technologies
based on the acquisition and use of existing scientific and other relevant knowledge and skills. The
development activities may include commercially useful prototypes. The result of the implemented
development activities expected to be utilized, including commercialized in the short term.

Deliveries: There is a requirement that development activities should be reported / disseminated. There is a
broad framework for how, from a publication in a professional journal for an explanation or note that is
published on a website (see list of developing supplies in GDDP instructions).

Type of activity - Development

Example - New cabbage and leek varieties offers organic vegetables on the table year round

Background : Cabbage and leeks are popular in Denmark, but the domestic organic production can not keep up with consumer
demand. Therefore we import a large scale these commodities outside the season, and it goes both beyond CO 2- financial statements
and the vegetables quality.

development activities The project will develop high-value varieties of cabbage and leeks to organic production through
cross-pollination, plant breeding and trial cultivation of varieties used in conventional farming.

Purpose : Extension of the selling season for fresh cabbage and leeks. Development
of new ecological high-value varieties of cabbage and leeks to ensure increased
productivity and employment by organic farmers.

participants : Nissen Consult, Bio-Plant, Skyttes Horticulture, Nørregård

Ecology, Halkær river valley Organic ApS.

GDDP 29/08/2016 6
Activity Type - Demonstration
During demonstrations are activities whose primary purpose is to disseminate and spread of scientific
knowledge and practices concerning the use of, inter alia, results from research and / or development activities
on new products, processes or technologies.

Demonstration projects are projects that demonstrate the results of research or development to a group of actors
f. Ex. Farmers, gardeners etc. The demonstration projects are well suited to show farmers new farming methods
or the use of equipment and practices in the fields and stables. All interested parties must have access to the
demonstration. The projects are about intermediary and therefore may not be in the nature of market introduction
and marketing of new products that enhance the competitiveness of individual enterprises.

Deliveries: There is a requirement that the demonstration activity should be reported / disseminated, but there is
scope for how. From a publication in a professional journal for a technical manual that is published on a website
(see list of developing supplies in GDDP instructions).

GDDP 29/08/2016 7
Activity Type - Demonstration
Example - Danish fruit without crop residues

Background Production of apples often involve use of pesticides. The project is working to reduce the amount of
pesticides used in industry by 20-30%. An earlier project showed that it was possible to avoid splashing in the period
when the fruits develop, without leading to heavy losses and without coming pesticide residues in fruit, called nulrest
strategy. Nulrest Strategy biggest challenge was attacked by rot fungi.

Demonstration activities: The project will demonstrate nulrest strategy in

commercial plantations through open house events and the organization of
workshops. Furthermore, the project development is demonstrated.

Purpose : Knowledge for growers on nulrest strategy.

participants : Aarhus University, Horticultural Advisory Service, Fejø

fruit, Snaptun Fruit and Lolk's Orchard.

GDDP 29/08/2016 8
Activity Type - Network
The purpose of the network is to map barriers and business prospects and potential for development
within a defined area. The activities of a network is clarification and mapping. Actual research and
development activities are not included in the network. Public authorities may be involved, as
appropriate, without being able to receive support.

Network intends to create the basis for launching a long-standing, close and trusting
cooperation between the actors for subsequent projects.

The network will consist of players from different parts of the value chain or the actors who cut across
established value chains.

GDDP 29/08/2016 9
Activity Type - Network
Example - New Ways of Danish Horticulture

Background : Danish nurseries have reputable capabilities in innovation, genetics and breeding. In spite of this acquired
long had it hard, causing many closed businesses and many layoffs.

networking Activities Mapping and analysis of Danish actors' knowledge and the identification of barriers and potential opportunities
for development within the industry.

Purpose : Establishment of an innovative forum for dialogue and new partnerships

to create new growth, development, and competitive advantages that benefit the
environment, health, industry and employment in the sector.

participants : Graff Breeding A / S, AU, SDU, Plant Technology, Agro Tech,

Danish Horticulture, nursery Tingdal ApS, Chr. Hansen Natural Color A / S,
Agrotech, BKI, Tea and coffee specialist, InnovationLab, nursery Industry
Organization.

a) cooperation between companies of which at least one is an SME and no single undertaking bears more than 70 per cent. of eligible costs, or

b) cooperation between a company and one or more research institutions, where the latter holds at least 10 per cent. of eligible costs and has the right to
publish their own research results. The project's results are widely disseminated through conferences, publications, open access collections, free software
or open source software
