Dear Ms. Vint

I am very pleasured to share my writing process and my feelings about revising and
receiving constructive feedback with you.

Before I begin my paper, I would write down all the information I know about the
topic. When I first look at the essay topic, usually, it is difficult for me to start my
writing, to write the beginning. Writing down the information would let me have a
general plan for the essay. I would have an idea that which information would be used
in the beginning and the body of my writing, and then I would start my paper.
Sometimes, I may get stuck while writing. At that time, I would not keep trying, but
just leave it there and do something else to relax myself for several minutes, and then
continue my paper. Your thinking is more active when you are relaxed. After I finish
my paper, I would look over the whole essay and fix it up.

I think revising is very common during my writing process. Before I read this article,
I thought revising is we fix up our writing according to feedback. Now, I realize that I
keep revising while I am writing. Correcting spelling of the words, changing the
words, changing the sentences, fixing up after I finish the paper, all of them are
revising. In my opinion, the “down draft”, “up draft” and “dental draft” already work
for me. When I first look at the essay topic, I write down all the information about the
topic, such as words, sentences, experiences, stories. This is my “down draft”. When I
first finish the paper, the paper can be seems as the “up draft”. Then after I fix it up, I
would get my final product, which can be seems as the “dental draft”.

In my view, receiving constructive feedback is very helpful for me to improve my

writing, but sometimes we don’t need to follow the feedback. If the feedback asked
you to rewrite part of your writing since there is a big issue at that part, you would
need to rewrite it and this can improve your writing. I think everyone has a similar
feeling that when we look over our own writing, it is difficult for us to find out the
mistakes, even though the mistake is obvious. At this situation, feedback is very
helpful. However, if the feedback asked you to rewrite just because your opinion is
much different from his, you can just stick your own opinion. For the same topic,
people can write in many ways, focusing on different aspects. For example, for the
topic “why we need to attend college to pursue degree”, some people may think that

attending college, people can learn more knowledge and master more skills, while
some may focus on the importance of degree. It is hard to say which one is better. So
you can just stick your opinion at this situation.

Above are all my responses to the questions. I look forward to your feedback.

Sincerely yours,

Weiye Kuang
