AXIAL FAN SPECIFICATION

Tender Specifications for Supply /Exhaust & Pressurization Axial Fans

1. GENERAL
This Section specifies the mandatory codes, manufacturing standard, selection, installation
and inspection practises to be followed for fans for optimum utilization. Fans should be
installed with suitable accessories as recommended and required at site. Good Engineering
and manufacturer recommended storage, installation procedure should be strictly
followed.

2. Mandatory Codes and Standards


a) ISO 9001:2000: Quality management system should be followed by manufacturer and
must be monitored by independent third party on continual basis.
b) ISO 14001/LEED: Environmental management system to be followed by manufacturer
which must be monitored by third party.
c) CE-Marking: The CE marking is to assert that all relevant standards are followed by
manufacturer. Fan should have CE mark on the product before shipment.
d) ISO 5801: “Industrial fans, performance testing” demarcated in certified lab.
e) AMCA 210-99/ 301: Fan should be licensed to bear AMCA seal for air performance
and sound performance or the claimed air and sound performance must be
demonstrated in AMCA accredited laboratory as per AMCA publication 211 and 311.
f) EN 12101-3 -2015: “Smoke and Heat Control systems – powered smoke and heat
exhaust”. The complete assembly must have certificate of consistency of performance
by BSI. The fire test must be conducted by certified lab.

3. CONSTRUCTION / SELCTION / INSTALLATION AND INSPECTION REQUIREMENTS

AXIAL FANS
Fan shall be complete with motor, motor mount and accessories as required according
to the type of installation required at site.
CASING of axial fans shall be constructed from galvanized steel sheet of minimum 3
mm thickness and at least 275 GSM coating or MS with hot dip galvanization for
maximum corrosion resistance. Length of the single casing should be greater than the
length of fan & motor assembly, no casing attachment should be used increase length
in order to prevent air leakage at high pressures.
The casing must be manufactured as per DIN EN ISO 1641, flanges must spun flanged
at both ends for high rigidity as per DIN 24154 series 3 EUROVENT 1/2 suitable for
ducted connection, welding of flanges to is not permitted to avoid corrosion and pitting
of casing.
IMPELLER of axial fans shall be constructed from die cast aluminum alloy of grade ADC
12 / LM 13. The impeller blade angle must be adjustable to adapt to the site
requirement, fixed blade impeller of extruded metal for any size are not acceptable for
axial fans. Profiles of impeller blade should be of airfoil type to have high efficiency and
low noise levels. Impeller must be statically and dynamically balanced. The tip gap
clearance should be minimum to prevent losses.
MOTOR shall be energy efficient ( IE2 or higher ), squirrel cage, thermally enclosed, fan
cooled, standard frame, continuous duty, suitable for 400V/3 Ph/ 50Hz, AC power
supply provided with class F insulation for normal operations and H class for smoke
exhaust application, IP55 in accordance with EN 60034-5/IEC 85. The speed of the fans
shall not exceed 1500 RPM for fans with impeller diameter above 450 mm, and 3000
RPM for fans with impeller diameter 450 mm and less. Motor speed shall not exceed 1500
rpm unless otherwise specified or needed for enhancing fan performance for lower air handling
capacity fans.The motor bearings should be life lubricated and completely maintenance
free and can be used at any installation position at indicated maximum temperature of
transported air. The life expectancy of the bearing should be at least 40000 hours
(L10).Motor must be foot mounted with standard plate thickness to ensure least
obstruction with maximum stability. Motor terminal box shall be mounted on exterior
of fan casing, and lead wires from the motor to the conduit box shall be protected from
the air stream by enclosing in a flexible metal conduit for high temperature fans and
PVC for normal temperature fans.
SMOKE EXTRACT FANS

In addition to the aforesaid requirements stipulated for axial fan, all fans used for smoke
extraction and pressurization shall comply with additional requirements specified in this
Clause.
a) Entire fan assembly not just the motor must confirm to EN 12101-3: 2015 and must be
CE marked for safety and reliability. BSI certificate validating consistency of
performance and adherence to the prescribed requirements must be submitted for the
proposed model.
b) Smoke extraction fans shall be rated to deliver the designed flow rate and pressure for
continuous operation in an air stream temperature of 300° C for not less than two hour.
c) Range type test report shall be submitted to the Engineer for Approval mentioning
motor manufacturer detail and model used. All finishes shall be factory supplied and
have all the key components same as used in range type test.
FAN SELECTION
a) The exact fan total pressure based on the duct run and the offered equipment
shall be carefully checked and re-calculated for each fan before ordering the
fans.
b) Fan efficiency of 65 % or more is only for the guidance on air performance
however the fan should be selected for lowest electric power consumption at
an operating point. The specific fan power must be minimum.
c) The outlet velocity must be kept below 15 m/s for normal temperature and 18
m/s for high temperature fans to ensure system stability, reduce pressure
losses, possible vibration in the ducts and better attenuation.
d) Fan sound pressure level shall not exceed 75 dBA at 3 m for normal
temperature and 85 dBA at 3 m distance from the unit under laboratory set up
as per AMCA.
e) Sound attenuators shall be provided after acoustic assessment to achieve the
specified noise level. The attenuation calculation based on sound power at all
frequency level must be presented for approval.
f) Fan shall be selected based on best efficiency points with fan pitch angle
selected in the middle range out of available whole range of fan pitch angle.
g) Fan should be selected in the stable range of operation.
h) Motor KW must be higher than Bkw by minimum 10%.
i) Range test report certifying for F 300, third party consistency of performance
certificate should be submitted along with certified curves for approval.
j) The fan should be factory tested for one size before dispatch demonstrating the
claimed efficiency and sound levels are achieved using AMCA standard for air
and sound performance measurements.

MAIN SUPPLY/ EXTRACT FANS

In addition to the requirements stipulated for axial fan, all fans used for smoke
extraction shall comply with additional requirements specified -

Ductless Demand Control Ventilation (DDCV) System for Multi-Level Car Parking: DUCTLESS
VENTILATION USING CENTRIFUGAL TYPE JET FAN HIGH THRUST. SUITABLE FOR LOW HEIGHT
& HIGHER BASEMENT AREA(Minimum thrust required 85N/22N)

Ductless Demand control ventilation (DDCV) shall comprise of -


1) Centrifugal Jet Fans
2) Main Supply & Exhaust Fans
3) CO Sensors
4) Control Panel with Programmable logic control
5) CFD analysis.
6) System commissioning and handing over

The basement ventilation system should be adequate to maintain concentration of toxic gases
within safe limits as per NBC 2016 /ASHRAE i.e. within 35 ppm for 1 hr. exposure with a
maximum of 25 ppm for 8 hrs exposure or 6 ACPH & 12 ACPH in case of smoke .
The entire basement must be divided into smoke control zones with zoning as per NBC 2016.

System Components –

APPLICATION –
 To relief heat and smoke from the car park in the event of fire.

 To reduce contaminants

 To eliminate the need for bulky ductwork(In case of conventional duct systems require a
lot of space where as jet fans are only installed at particular points, taking up less than
0.5% of the ceiling area.). This will help to save car-parking spaces, reduce running costs
and noise, and make the car park a lighter, less cluttered environment.

SCOPE- The scope of ductless ventilation system includes supply, installation, testing and
commissioning of Jet fans using CFD analysis.
The type, size & quantity of jet fans shall be finalized through CFD analysis software by the
subcontractor.

CENTRIFUGAL TYPE JET FAN : It is a low profile, high velocity induction fan, which
controls air movement in underground service areas and car parks, directing polluted air
towards the extract positions With a higher thrust, each fan can ventilate a significantly higher
floor area. This means that fewer units are required than with conventional impulse units.
Fewer units mean lower cabling and control requirements as well as lower installation and
maintenance costs.
Jet Fans shall be completely assembled at factory and then supplied to the site. Each jet fan shall
be complete with motor, motor mount and mounting brackets to vibration isolation type
suspension arrangement. Induction Fan in compact casing with high efficiency radial fan with
revision switch (optional). Using for horizontal construction
CASING/Housing of JET fans shall be constructed of galavanised sheet steel as per DIN EN
ISO 1641. Fan casing and motor mount shall be of welded steel construction. Casing shall be hot
dip galvanized to protect against corrosion.

IMPELLER of JET fans shall be constructed from die cast aluminum. Profiles of impeller
blade should be of aerodynamic radial type to have maximum thrust,high efficiency and low
noise levels. Aerofoil Fan impellers shall have a unique aerodynamic section blade to optimize
the efficiency of performance and minimize the generation of noise. Impeller must be statically
and dynamically balanced as per ISO 1940 grade 6.3

Temperature Rating -The complete fan assembly with its casing, impeller and motor ( not only
motor or one of the item ) shall be sourced from one manufacturer and tested as per EN Std for-
300 degree ( 572 F) for 2 Hrs operation.

The fan shall have a non-overloading characteristic. The peak power inputs occurs within range
of normal operating pressures and is always exceeded by motor rating.

Manufacturing Factory should be LEED certified Platinum Rated Green Building.

FAN Motor shall be energy efficient, squirrel cage, thermally enclosed , Class H insulation,
continuous duty, Dahlander winding for dual speed applications suitable for 400V/3 Ph/ 50Hz ,
AC power supply.

Motor shall comply with IEC34-a.

Terminal Box- Motor conduit box shall be mounted on exterior of fan casing, and lead wires
from the motor to the conduit box shall be protected from the air stream by enclosing in a flexible
metal conduit. It shall be sealed with fire rated sealant.

Inlet Cone- Jet fans shall have Inlet cone made of Galvanized steel

Mounting Brackets-Jet fans shall be supplied with mounting brackets for ceiling suspension.

CFD Analysis-

CFD (Computer Fluid Dynamics) is in a simplified version, a dynamic simulation of the


behavior/development of smoke, air speed, visibility and others, inside the car park, given certain
conditions (airflows, temperatures, etc).

Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) can simultaneously predict airflow, heat transfer and
contaminant transport in and around buildings. A CFD model is built upon fundamental physical
equations of fluid flow and energy transfer. The technique is capable of providing time
dependent and as well as steady state solutions to the coupled differential equations that govern
fluid flows.

CO Sensor

CO is colorless, odorless fatal gas which can only be detected using a precise sensor. CO gas
must be diluted to acceptable level as per NBC 2016 .The CO gas detector shall use
electrochemical for sensing CO as a sensing method for sensing CO. The CO sensor shall have
L.C. display indicating the ppm level. The detection range of the CO gas detector shall be from
0 to 250 ppm. The CO gas detector shall have high sensitivity and reliability. The CO gas
detector shall require the power supply of 24VAC or DC (12~36V). The output signal of CO gas
detector shall be on Modbus and 2-10 volts DC or 4 to 20 m Amps and relay output.
The housing material of CO sensor is Flame retarded according to UL94-V1.The CO gas
detector shall be CE approved.
The operating temperature of the CO gas detector shall be -10 to 50degree Celsius.
Controls
In addition to electrical panel and control specifications. In basement ventilation, the jet fans
must be wired in zig - zig configuration with fire resistant cabling of suitable size. The fan must
be interlocked with exhaust fan .Each smoke control zone should have an independent sub
panel connected to mechanical ventilation panel and if any panel /sub panel is located in open
and public areas it must have tamper proof construction to avoid mishandling and accidental
operation.

System commissioning and handing over

The final detail design of the systems shall be undertaken by the specialist fan supplier to
ensure there is the correct air movement both for normal carbon monoxide (CO) removal and
also for smoke extract in the event of a fire. The analysis shall include a 3-D computational fluid
dynamic (CFD) analysis for the entire car park area to validate the design requirements. Full
fan selection data and control regimes shall also be verified by the specialist fan supplier and
incorporated into

BASIC PLC LOGIC:

Please find the Basement Car Park Ventilation Control Logic

1.Normal Mode

1. General Ventilation Fan should be in OFF Mode.


2. Jet Fan should be in off Mode.
3. Exhaust & Fresh Air Fan should be in OFF Mode.

2.If Co level > 25 PPM

1. The Respective Zone CO sensor will give the signal to CO Module. And the CO module will
give the signal to PLC Panel.
2. The Respective Zone Jet Fans should be operated at Low Speed.
3. 4 Nos of Exhaust Fan will run in Low speed
4. 6 Nos of Fresh Air Fan should operate in Low speed on corresponding Panel.

3.If Co level > 35 PPM

1. The Respective Zone CO sensor will give the signal to CO Module. And the CO module will
give the signal to PLC Panel.
2. The Respective Zone Jet Fans should be operated at High Speed.
3. 4 Nos of Exhaust Fan will run in High speed
4. 6 Nos of Fresh Air Fan should operate in High speed on corresponding Panel.

4.Fire Mode

1. The Corresponding Floor all Jet Fan will operate at high speed.
2. All Exhaust fan will operate at High speed.
3. Fresh Air fan will be in OFF Condition.
