TITLE: HEALTH MANAGEMENT CONCERNS OF BEDRIDDEN PATIENTS AND

REHABILITATION CENTERS IN SAUDI ARABIA:

INTRODUCTION:

Saudi Arabia is considered as one of those countries where excessive prevalence and provision of

healthcare facilities with advanced and modified technologies and latest methods have been ensured

for the patients for all categories. Moreover, as a consequence of increasing economic growth and

position of the country, multiple diseases, disorders and conditions have also emerged and prevailed

within different cities and regions of Saudi Arabia like diabetes, obesity, increasing rates of patients

with blood pressure and heart diseases etc. The primary reason for emergence of these diseases is that

people have shifted their preferences from healthy homemade food, to excessively oil rich and fatty

foods which are available in multiple markets and places within the country (Almalki, 2011).

In addition to the fact, it has also been analysed that majority of the people of Saudi Arabia now

prefer eating fast food because of changing trends of the society. As a result of these problems, most

of the patients are being admitted to the hospitals on regular basis, and sometimes their physical

conditions worsen to the extent that they need to get admitted for months to get complete recovery from

their diseased conditions. Because of this fact, one of the major threats and problem for healthcare

sectors have been observed to be arising which is reduced presence of hospital beds for the emergency

patients or patients with severe injuries or accident cases (Shammari, 1997)

During the 19th century, the government of Saudi Arabia had put forward multiple strategies and

policies and implemented them in the country to enhance the quality and standard of healthcare services

provided to the patients. For this purpose, they had built six major hospitals in different cities of KSA,
and the branches are known as Mahaga. The hospital has been built by the government in cities of

Riyadh, Qassim, Baha, Medina, Asif and Taif (Albejaidi, 2010)

In general, there are three major categories of the hospitals in KSA including primary hospitals in

which include regular health centres, secondary hospitals also known as general hospitals and tertiary

hospitals which are called specialists hospitals and specific categories of patients are being treated

within these organizations. The primary reason for division of different categories of hospitals was to

ensure that each individual will be provided with sufficient level and quality of health care services by

all means (AlAhmadi, 2005)

The problem which has been mainly focused in this research study is that due to excessively

increasing number of bed ridden patients, as epidemiology of diabetes, heart diseases and other blood

pressure problems have been increasing rapidly, it becomes essential for the researchers to focus upon

different strategies which could be used for rectification of these problems and concerns. Since it is

essential to provide adequate quality services to the patients, therefore we have discussed in the

following research paper about different methods and ideas through which the emerging problem of

bedridden patients and psychologically compromised patients could be analysed. Despite the fact that

the patients of these two categories and types are also an important part of the entire system of the

country, and the problems associated with their health conditions need to be rectified, therefore certain

types of measures and strategies must be implemented within the country to resolve these problems

(Sebai, 2001).
