​ What We Did This Week…
THANK YOU​ to all that volunteered to help
contribute to our Dicken’s Day supplies! We
really appreciate all your donations that have
helped today to be a success. I will try to send
out an update of all we were able to do today.
If your child will ​not​ be in school today, they can
still earn the 10 SSL hours that students are
working towards on Dicken’s Day (today) by
writing 2-3 cards to either troops or children in
the hospital. I have attached the rules and
requirements for the cards.
We are still in need of parent volunteers for
Finance Park on January 13 and 14.

This week we began learning about the skeletal
system. Students completed a lab where they tried to
see how many textbooks an empty paper cup could
hold before it got damaged. Then, the students had a
new cup that they filled with beans. They looked to
see how many textbooks that the solid cup could fill.
They found that the solid cup could hold more
textbooks. However, the amount of weight of the cup
compared to the amount of weight it could hold, was
much higher for the empty cup which led us to a
discussion of why our bones have the structure that
they do. We went over bone vocabulary and labeled
the parts of a bone.
On Thursday, we went to the volleyball tournament
and geography bee.
Today we will be having Dicken’s Day. Your child will
be earning 10 SSL hours for completing the following
activities:
● Making sandwiches for people in need. Our
goal is to make 1,000 sandwiches.
● Making ‘no-sew blankets’ for children in the
hospital.
● Making dog toys for the Montgomery County
Humane Society.
● Writing cards for the troops.
● Watching the movie, ‘The Muppets Christmas
Carol’
