Practical 01
Data requirement for the development of simulation model and its source.

Petrophysical data & Geometry

Firstly we required static model data that includes. Net to gross thickness(NTG), initial water saturation (S w), porosity,
and absolute permeability. Capillary pressure etc It also includes basic geometry along mentioned properties.
Sources.
The main source for static model is the geophysical exploration and seismic surveys along some data from formation
evaluation.

PVT data
Pvt data includes the reservoir fluid properties which are
For oil
Oil gravity(API), Oil formation volume factor(Bo), Gas Oil ratio, oil viscosity, bubble point pressure.
For gas

For water
Water formation volume factor( Bw) , water viscosity, water compressibility.
Source
Fluid sampling.

Reservoir data
Oil water contact(OWC), gas water contact( GWC), gas oil contact (GOC), initial pressure, Datum depth.
Temperature, and aquifer detail and parameters.
Sources
Well testing and logging.

Production data

Practical 02
Development of basic simulation model of five spot water flooding using ECLIPSE 100.
WATER FLOODING
Water Flooding is a process used to inject water into an oil-bearing reservoir for pressure maintenance as well as for
displacing and producing incremental oil after (or sometimes before) the economic production limit has been reached.

Graphical representation using OFFICE.
steps for graphical representation.
1.open Eclipse, go to office option.
2.click office and select the folder for which graphical representation is required.
3. click on results, and go to file option.
4. go to open, summary, load vectors respectively.
5. click SMSPEC file and there will be the graphs on screen for different parameters.
6.you can also merge all vectors on same graph with same X axis.
7. this is done by added the graph into current graph option.

Numerical dispersion analysis.
Numerial dispersion is the method of simulation in which smart approch to keep the total length same with the change
in the number cells and cell size.where number of cell in each direction is shown through Ni,and cell size is denoted
by Di, where i= X,Y or Z.

Whole the data file will remains same for the numerical dispersion , only the Di and Ni values will be changed
respectively , where i=x,y,z .
Since the area is same in the numerical dispersion so
Di= 20 Ni=25, Di= 10 Ni=50, .

Development of basic simulation model of Horizontal well using Eclipse 100.

A horizontal well is an oil or gas well dug at an angle of at least eighty degrees to a vertical wellbore. This technique
has become increasingly common and productive in recent years. The horizontal well is a type of
directional drilling technique.

Development of basic simulation model of grid orientation of wells using Eclipse 100.
Grid orientation
Grid orientation effect is one of the unresolved issues in reservoirsimulation. This anomalous phenomenon is.
observed when computational grid is rotated and substantially different numerical solutions are obtained for a same

Practical 08
Development of basic simulation model of LGR in cartesian grid geometry using Eclipse 100.
LGR
The Local Grid Refinement (LGR) option allows enhanced grid definition in areas needing a higher level of
simulation accuracy, such as near wells or in areas of complex geology. Grid coarsening may be used to amalgamate
cells in regions of the reservoir which are less important to speed up simulation run times.

Development of basic simulation model of Aquifer using Eclipse 100.

An aquifer is an underground layer of water-bearing permeable rock, rock fractures or unconsolidated materials
(gravel, sand, or silt). Groundwater can be extracted using a water well. The study of water flow in aquifers and the
characterization of aquifers is called hydrogeology.

Sensitivity analysis of several inputs of reservoir simulation model.
Sensitivity analysis is the study of how the uncertainty in the output of a mathematical model or system (numerical or
otherwise) can be apportioned to different sources of uncertainty in its inputs. ... Increased understanding of the
relationships between input and output variables in a system or model.

Model calibration using field data

Model calibration is the process of adjustment of the model parameters and forcing within the margins of the
uncertainties (in model parameters and / or model forcing) to obtain a model representation of the processes of
interest that satisfies pre-agreed criteria (Goodness-of-Fit or Cost Function) Model calibration is the process of
