1. Choose the Clash Detective tool from the Tools panel in the Home tab; the Clash Detective
window is displayed.
2. Choose the Add Test button in the Clash Detective window; a new test named Test 1 is added
in the Test panel.
3. Next, rename Test1 as Ducts vs Walls by double –clicking on it and press ENTER, refer to
Figure 1.

4. Choose the Select tab in the Clash Detective window, if it is not chosen by default.
5. In the Select tab, select the sets option from the drop-down lists available at the top in the
Selection A and Selection B areas; the created selection sets are displayed in both the areas of
the window.
6. Next, select Ducts in the Selection A area and Walls in the Selection B area, as shown in the
figure 2.

2. Ensure the Items in same layer check box is selected from the predefined rules displayed in the
window, as shown in Figure 3.
1. Choose the Select tab and ensure that the Hard option is selected in the Type drop-down in the
Settings area.
2. Next, choose the Run Test button in the Clash detective window; the Results tab is displayed
with the clash results and the summary is displayed in the Test panel, as shown in Figure 4.

1. In the Results tab, ensure that the Item 1 and Item 2 buttons are chosen in the Highlighting
area of the Display Settings panel.
2. Next, ensure that the Dim Other button is chosen in the Isolation area of the Display Settings
panel.
3. Next, select the Transparent dimming and Auto reveal check boxes in the Isolation area.
4. Ensure that the Auto-update option is selected in the Viewpoint drop-down list.
5. Select the Animate transitions check box in the Viewpoint area of the Display Settings panel,
if not selected.
6. Next, select the Clash 2 result in the result table; the corresponding clashed items are
displayed in the scene view, as shown in Figure 5.

7. Click in the Status column corresponding to the Clash 2 result; a drop-down list is displayed.
8. Select the Reviewed option from this list. Next, select the Use status color option from the
drop-down list in the Highlighting area of the Display Settings panel; the clashed items get
highlighted in the color assigned for the clash status, as shown in Figure 6.
9. Repeat the procedure followed in steps 1 to 7 and view the clash results Clash 1 to Clash 41.
Grouping Clashes into Categories
1. Hold control and click on every Clashes that are the same category as shown in figure 7.
2. Click the Group Selected Clashes which is beside the New Group. Next, you can name the
Group by double click on the New Group and change it to Toilet area.
Saving Clashed Views
1. Choose the Cloud tool from Review > Redline > Draw drop-down; the cursor changes into a
pencil cursor.
2. Draw the cloud around the clashed items, as shown in Figure 9. Here, Clash2 has been shown.
3. Next, choose the Text tool from the Redline panel of the Review tab. Place the cursor inside
the drawn cloud and click; the Autodesk Navisworks Manage 2017 dialog box is displayed.
4. In this dialog box, enter Clashed Items in the Enter Redline Text text box, and choose the OK
button; the text is added, as shown in Figure 10.
2. In the Contents and Include these statuses areas of the window, ensure that the check boxes
are selected, as shown in Figure 11.

3. Next, in the Output Settings area, ensure that the Current test option is selected in the Report
Type drop-down list, refer to Figure 11.
4. Select the HTML (Tabular) option from the Report Format drop-down list, refer to
5. Next, choose the Write Report button; the Save As dialog box is displayed.
7. Specify the name Clash_Report in the File name edit box and choose the Save button. The
clash report will be saved at the specified location.
8. Next, browse to the location on your system where the report is saved and click on the
Clash_Report HTML document; the created report is displayed, as shown in Figure 12.
9. All the following steps above will be repeated for the clash test of Walls vs Pipes.
