A Speech on the Importance of Preserving Trees

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. Thank you so much for taking the time
to listen to my speech on the importance of preserving trees. I am sure you share
my belief that the trees in our neighbourhood should not be cut down
indiscriminately.

Trees are all around us and we cannot deny the fact that they are vital. Losing
them will cause us to suffer drastically. Trees have become an indispensable part of
our life as they are a part of the environment which we need to take good care of.

As you know, trees produce life-giving oxygen which we all need in order to
survive. Felling of trees reduces the amount of oxygen being released into the
atmosphere. This increases greenhouse effect which in turn creates global warming.
We need trees to cool the air and reduce air pollution. Cutting down of trees causes
the problem of air pollution to worsen and we have to bear the serious
consequences of health problems, such as respiratory diseases which include
asthma and chronic bronchitis. If we are unfortunate enough to have been
diagnosed with one of the diseases, we are bound to pay for medical fees which
cost an arm and a leg.

Besides, trees are a source of food for people and animals. Fruits from trees
can help to satisfy our thirst. In addition, some birds live on trees. If trees are being
cut down, they are going to lose their habitat and we will not be able to hear the
merry sounds of birds when we return home from work. Some of us are as happy as
lark when we are on our way home because we enjoy hearing the chirping sound of
birds. If trees are destroyed, these creatures will lose their homes and they will
gradually become extinct. Ladies and gentlemen, do you really want it to happen?

Last but not least, trees make our neighbourhood look lovely. The trees in our
housing area give an air of comfort after a hard day’s work at the office. After a
stressful day at work, we wish to find a place to rest and to release our stress.
Enjoying the beauty and serenity of nature is one of the ways to relax and de-stress.
I am sure most of you feel the same way as I do. I have seen the elderly and the
children stop to take a breath of fresh air under the row of trees in the playground.
So, we should not allow the trees to be cut down.

I hope my speech has enlightened you on the importance of trees. Your

support is our great importance in my campaign to convince the authorities not to
cut down the trees around here indiscriminately. Once again, thank you for lending
me your ears.
